My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER is a 7 year old chocolate neutered male who weighs 53 pounds. He's a very affectionate boy that loves to snuggle and thinks he is a lap dog. He is house trained and crate trained. He loves to swim in lakes, rivers, and creeks. Foster gets excited to go for walks ~ he pulls at first, but quickly settles down. He knows the commands: sit, shake, roll over (for a treat), stay, crawl, and lay down. He is very smart and a quick learner. His ears are sensitive so if rubbed too much he may yelp (they’ve always bothered him). He prefers calmer dogs and likes to play one-on-one with other dogs. Foster has lived with a cat so he may be ok with dog savvy cats. Foster is approved for kids aged 10 and up as younger kids make him nervous.

Update (8/06): "Foster" the foster here! I am smaller than my foster brothers, but we really are getting along great. At night we sometimes play musical beds when it is bedtime. I sit and wait before I'm given the command to eat my meals. Cats are okay, and I respect the bossy one. Of course my favorite thing to do is to go outside for a walk and discover anything that I can sniff out.

Update (7/17): Foster enjoys spending time outside with his nose to the air and ground checking out the smells. He is also investigating things during walks in the woods. He likes getting brushed and loves playing with his Nylabone. He also likes to go swimming. He can play ball but she really likes keep away much better. He met the cat who swatted him and then ran off. After that he has kept his distance. Foster prefers a calmer and quieter environment.

Update (6/13): Foster here! This morning I wanted to take a nap on the sofa. The guys and I had gone on our walks, checked out all the moving and non moving things in the yard of which I saw a squirrel and told it where to go. Then we came and made sure that nothing had to be taken care of, no pesky varmints running around in the house. Well I had my eye on the sofa as the very best place to take a little snooze. You see I hadn't jumped up there on my own until a couple of days ago. The first thing I had to do was to make sure that my foster brothers were not going to come up and grab it. So I carefully looked at them and then looked around as I put one paw up then the next paw. No one made a noise at all, so I went for it and got my whole self up. I am so proud of myself, hehe, and about the time I was rejoicing quietly, foster Mom came over and flashed the light in my face again. She thought you might like to see me again. I think I will go to sleep now and dream again about a new forever family. Bye for now, chat more later.

Update (6/01): Foster has done a great job of settling in and learning the routine. He gets a walk in the morning and some playtime, and then he's fine not being crated during the day and can be trusted. He likes to sleep wherever the other dog is, check on his humans, and then he will go back and do whatever he was doing. He has toys spread all over the house, prefers those squeaky toys, likes plastic water bottles and sometimes a nylabone. He has moderate energy but not too high. He knows what it means to “chill." He loves splashing around in the pool, but does not like being bathed. He likes to tease the other dog or will nibble at her ear and let her know it is “playtime”. Foster will bark at dog walkers that past by and occasionally he will see squirrels & deer and bark at them too. Most of the time he is happy just to chase a ball and jump into the pool. He sits nicely for treats and at mealtimes. He is learning the down command. Foster is a sweet heart!

Update (5/28): Foster would really love a home of his own again, and having another dog in the house would be all right as he enjoys their company and cats are an okay too. The only thing about other big dogs is he just doesn't think they need to be jumping up and down around him as they need to use great manners. Foster will tell them to stop jumping and they seem to listen. He loves to swim and so he is going to go to a lake soon for a trial run. Michael Phelps may have some competition ahead! If you could give him a little bit of love he will give you all of his devotion and love unconditionally for the rest of his life. If you love to take walks he would love to be your walking partner forevermore. If you really want a sweetheart of a lab, he is a leading contender for the title. Foster will be more than happy to be the one to listen to you talk about your day and give soft kisses on your hand to tell you everything will be all right. He is really just waiting for you to come along and make him a part of your family.

Update (5/26): Foster is settling in nicely. He is a smaller chocolate lab weighing in at 56 lbs and not on the tall side. He certainly doesn't know he is smaller though as he is up to any new challenges put before him. He loves to be a polite assistant in the kitchen and has a special assignment he has taken on to make sure that his foster is loading the dishwasher properly. He likes to follow his foster but will leave enough space to allow them both to walk. Foster would love to get up in bed with his foster, but he is willing to quietly sleep in his crate by the bed all night long and will also go in for naps on his own. He lets his fosters know when he has to go outside by going to the door and talking to us. He enjoys being around his foster brothers on walks and loves it when they go just a little bit farther than before. He is easy on the leash and pulls only when he thinks he might get to explore the backyard woods, so trail hiking would probably be a very enjoyable adventure to enjoy with his family. He is not into toys as much and balls look interesting but his ball crazy foster brother has decidedly been given the insane ball player title, so Foster would rather watch him than join in.
