My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sam!
Sam is a 10 year old Yellow Lab that found his way to Izzy's Place after his owner moved and could not bring him along. Poor Buddy. He was scared and depressed in the shelter, but we are happy to report that Sam is your typical happy lab who is enjoying all the spoils of being an Izzy's Place Foster!

His Foster Mom describes him best: "Every dog is special, but this guy....well....he's special. I call him Big Sam 'cause he's BIG, big body, big paws that actually make it seem like he is a puppy and has more room to grow. More than one person at the dog park has called him "cute". He is full of joy...ALL the Time. He gets along with EVERYBODY and is the neighborhood dog park gate greeter. He lopes, canters and gallops around the park surprisingly well for such a big guy his age... "freight train" comes to mind with him yet he has settled well into my apartment."

We here at Izzy's Place hear he is very vocal and has an endearing grunt and snort in his vocabulary. He is not a barker, but will let out deep bark to let you know something is going on in the neighborhood. It IS his job, you know.

Sam is an older gentleman who knows his potty training and is not destructive when left alone. His previous owner said it was hard for him to resist that steak on the counter and occasionally helped himself. What brilliant lab wouldn't eat a juicy steak left out on the counter?!? Duh. And, being the smart cookie he is, he seems to know what dog doors are and how to use them.

His Foster Mom is having fun taking him to the dog park and letting him shine. She said "he is fine with all dogs at the park, even the tiny happy ones." The cat? She said "He had a bit of curiosity at first with my boyfriend's cat, but that was because the cat blocked his way to the kitchen and he swiped poor Sam on the nose. Now Sam walks right by him - avoiding all eye contact" with that mean kitty.

What lab wouldn't have a quirk? Sam knows how to open doors that have a simple lever that you push down. Sam will need a little extra security on the doors and gate to keep him safe. At his Foster Mom's house, he opened the laundry room door and let himself out the dog door to hang out in the backyard. Silly and VERY smart boy!

Sam passed his initial health screen at the shelter and has had a day at the spa for a bath, nails trimmed, and a new collar and tag. Sam would love a home with a yard to play in or someone to take him to the dog park where he can lope and canter around and enjoy being a loved lab.
