Sophia is sweet, gentle, devoted, Basset girl – another unclaimed treasure from SARS. She need only bat her eyelashes and she’ll melt your heart; she is an amazing Basset Hound. This beauty has a pleasant, easy-going nature and loves all creatures equally – two legged and four legged. What more could you want from a dog? Bassets are the clowns of the dog world; however, before adopting a Basset, a person should do their research. They are considered to be independent thinkers, although some people would claim they are stubborn. They respond to commands at the same speed they do everything else – very slowly. Sophia might have a wash and wear coat, but routine grooming is required. Those ears don’t clean themselves, droopy eyes must often be wiped, and let’s not forget the Basset nails that must be frequently cut. Sophia is not a small dog; she weighs 45 lbs. Although Sophia does not have to run for miles, she does need more than a walk around the block to keep her healthy and fit. She has a powerful nose and a yen for odours, so a securely fenced yard is a must. Her beautiful voice might be music to your ears but not appreciated in an apartment or condo. Bassets thrive on human companionship and so a home where she is not alone all day or would be ideal.
