My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Chelsea -- aren't I pretty?? I am a cross between a Shetland Sheepdog and either a corgi or a spaniel, or maybe both -- it's great to be a part of the great American melting pot. Apparently I am around 3 years old .... I've lost count. I weigh 23 lbs.
I live to love -- one of my two favorite pasttimes is sitting on a lap or next to a lap and being petted and scratched for as many hours as I can get. My other favorite pasttime is RUNNING! Chasing my toys around the yard or around the house is so much fun and it helps me burn off the high energy I have. Some of my energy is natural to my breed background, but I'm also still getting over the anxiety from my former life and getting used to the fact that now I am safe, and loved, and protected in my foster home while I wait for my family to find and adopt me.

From Chelsea's foster person: Chelsea is an amazingly affectionate dog. She is praise motivated as opposed to food motivated, which I haven't seen that often. She has very good basic manners and is DESPERATE to learn to do what her people want her to do. She fetches, sits still for petting (for hours if she can), eats well, and is housebroken. She barks rarely, and only to announce the presence of an unknown human approaching our house. She tolerates a crate but is not crate-trained to the point of entering on her own. I think she would enjoy a crate eventually, though, because at our house, she sleeps under a table in a gated off indoor porch. Chelsea would be great at agility work or other types of active events. She already walks on her hind legs and could probably learn a lot of tricks! Like many rescue dogs, Chelsea needs a home with rules and attention to her needs so that she can continuing developing into the dog she was meant to be.

Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed.

All dogs are spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday June 14, 2014, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, at their new location, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
