Howdy everyone! I’m Durango... better known to my friends as Cheese! I know... I know... a silly name, but I’ll get to that.
I came from a shelter in the Tri City Area and luckily found my way to Happy Tails Happy Homes. I was pretty darn young and quite ill when I came to my foster home, but they knew just what to do and I fit right in.
You can see from my photo, I don’t have any fur. But I am working hard on growing it in. I had a very severe case of Demodectic Mange as well as a yeast infection on my skin when I came into rescue. Demodex is a tiny, ugly (non contagious) little mite that lives under the skin. Most puppies have it, but it does not pose a problem unless there is A LOT of stress in the life of the pet. Being born, living my first few weeks in a shelter... well, that was just a bit too much for my body and the mite took hold. That is how I got my name, I was pretty stinky when I first went to my foster home and they began to call me Stinky Cheese Man. Now, its just Cheese!
To heal me, I have been eating a holistic diet and doing great! I am doing so well that I can go to my forever home very soon. Who ever adopts be must be prepared to feed me this holistic diet for the rest of my life, as it will keep me strong and healthy. You can get it locally, and I really like it, so its not big deal.
I am super friendly and very social. I love other dogs (of all sizes) cats and kids, although due to my size small kids are not in my best interest. More mature, respectful kids would be just fine.
I have been attending Puppy Pre School Class and meeting lots of other pups and people. I am crate trained, potty trained to a wee pad and am learning my basic cues like sit and down.
