Violet's Story...
Violet, along with her mother, was taken in from the cold by a kind person in Lincoln. Violet was born around 9/1/07, and spent much of her early kitten-hood outdoors; because she didn't spend much time with people when she was young, she is a little shy. However, she is learning to love people.

Violet loves to play with string- and teaser-type toys. She gets along well with other kittens and adult cats, but would do best in a quiet home without small children. Violet has a very soft, plush coat, which she likes to have brushed. She is very quiet, but will let you know when she wants some attention or the food bowl is empty.

About Our Shelter...
The Cat House is a non-profit, no-kill shelter in Lincoln, Nebraska. We are a limited admission feline-only shelter. We began operations in 1999 to provide an alternative to traditional shelters. We only euthanize for pain and suffering, never to make space for more adoptable cats. We are an all-volunteer group, with no paid staff. We have a 7 member Board of Directors, one of which is our consulting Veterinarian. We rent a care facility and a storefront adoption center, in addition to space at our local PetsMart. We exist entirely on adoption fees and donations. We have partnered with our local shelter in three large hoarder situations by taking in many of the cats and kittens. We have adopted out over 1500 cats and kittens since our beginnings. If you would like to adopt a cat, please see either the cats listed at this website or at our website. If you would like to donate to help pay the rent or the utilities, you may do so by credit card via Pay Pal on our website or send a check to our address. Local volunteers are always needed and welcomed. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out an application on our website.

Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption process consists of completion of an application, followed by an interview. All applications and interview results are reviewed by our board. An adoption contract is completed at the time of adoption. Our adoption fee is currently $90.00 ($45 for the second and subsequent cats adopted at or around the same time). If the cat is considered to be special needs or a senior (age 7 or over), or if the adopter is age 60 or over, the fee is reduced to $60. All cats and kittens have been spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia virus, microchipped, and are up-to-date on rabies and RCP ("distemper") vaccinations. To help facilitate adoptions we adopt only within a 200 radius from of Lincoln Nebraska and we cannot ship cats.
