My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Poppy and Harley are an adorable and lovable Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier pair from the same home looking for a loving guardian.

While these two don’t necessarily have to be adopted together, they certainly show signs of adoring each other. They groom each other, play together, sleep together and snuggle together. They both love other each other, as well as other dogs and cats.

Poppy is a six to eight-year-old, 17.2 pound white female Shih Tzu with tan markings. Harley is an 11 to 12-year-old, 7.9 pound silver and tan male Yorkshire Terrier.

Harley is the gentlest and softest dog I have ever met; he is wonderful with everyone. He follows you everywhere and dances for treats.

Poppy is a great walking and running partner. She’s energetic and playful; she loves to walk around with a stuffed animal in her mouth. Poppy can be a little barky when she first meets someone in her home environment; however out on walks and runs, she has the biggest smile and greeting for everyone she meets!

The two dogs are a joy to be around. They curl up on the couch and sleep most of the day, and enjoy sleeping in bed with you at night. They enjoy snuggling in your lap and both give lovely kisses especially after their recent dental!

Sadly their human has been suffering from cancer and hasn’t been able to care for them for quite some time. They previously lived with at least six other dogs. When I went to pick them up on May 12th, their hair was matted to the skin and soaked with urine. They have since been professionally groomed and their hair is growing back beautifully. They had been used for breeding, but are now spayed and neutered. Their breath was horrible, and between the two of them, they had 20 teeth pulled. Poppy had 13 teeth pulled and Harley had 7 pulled. Did you know dogs start out with 42 teeth, and humans only have 32 - if you include wisdom teeth?

Their adoption fee of $300 each or $500 as a pair will help defray the cost of their vetting which as you can imagine was substantial. They are now beautifully groomed, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on rabies, distemper and bordatella vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. To meet and possibly adopt Poppy, or Harley or both, please contact me directly at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891. They have temporarily joined my family and are living in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood.
