My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BRUISER is a 3-4 year old black neutered male who weighs 54 pounds He is a sweet boy! One of the shelter volunteers touched him all over, and he was fine with that. He also walked nicely on the leash. Bruiser met one of the shelter volunteer’s male and female dogs and was fine with both of them. (He went up and greeted both of them nicely and was calm the entire time.) He's approved for kids ages 10 and up.

Update (6/16): Brusier went along to his foster's office the other day and did fabulously. He was perfectly sweet and just slept much of the time. He is a 90% low energy dog, and would do GREAT with older people as he likes to walk slowly. He does occasionally get excited about fun things on the other side of the fence, so keep an eye out for that. At heart though, he's just a big couch potato and would rather be lounging and loving with you inside. He will lay with his head in your lap for hours and is completely content. He really can trust another calm dog given time, and would probably do well with another dog, but would be okay alone.

Update (6/14): Brusier loves cuddling up with other dogs and lazing around the house. He's a pretty easy-going guy and just wants to be with his friends and family. Are you ready for your forever cuddle-bug?

Update (6/09): Bruiser is a LOVE! He wants to be loved and will do whatever it takes to get on your lap or in your face for some pets. If you stop petting, he puts his head under your hand and pushes for some more loving! He is such a sweetie. He definitely needs a family that is going to love to cuddle with him! He’ll chase the ball some, but not really retrieve it, he likes to run on his terms, he will jog across the yard. He loves exploring the big yard, and looking for squirrels, etc. He seems to really enjoy children, whenever the kids from the local daycare are walking by, he goes to the fence and wags at all the children. It is really sweet to watch him. The neighbor kids came over (12-22) and he let them all scratch him as much as they would! He needs the right people that will give him patience and love. He is good but needs guidance, and a very slow introduction to any dogs…would recommend he have a lower energy dog if he goes to a home with a dog.

Update (6/05): Bruiser is a sweetheart. He took a couple of days to really settle in with the resident lab, but they are great together now. He has met with several other dogs and done well with them with the proper introduction. He enjoys sleeping right next to his foster brother and the two dogs interact often. Bruiser would do probably do very well in a home with relaxed people who don’t necessarily want to take their dog out and about all the time as he doesn’t need a ton of exercise. Because of his disability sometimes he hobbles around, but occasionally will run full out and you would never know he’s got the injury. He does fine with steps, but he would rather go out the front door rather than the basement, probably because the steps are not as steep.

He is one of the best leash dogs his foster has seen! There is no pulling at all. He does get to a spot and not want to leave so patient and short walks are preferred for him. Bruiser could benefit from training. He doesn’t seem to really know any commands, but he is polite and is learning quickly. He can do sit, and he’s working on OFF (he is a bit of a jumper but is quickly learning!).

Update (6/04): Bruiser is one of the sweetest mannered dogs we've had stay with us, he can use training, but he's sweet and learns fast!. He LOVES every person he's ever met. He WAGS every time the 90+ lb resident lab gets near him. They play tug, they run together in the yard, and they sleep very near each other. He loves to play in the yard and also walks nicely on a leash. No pulling! He is full of kisses for everyone! What a sweetie!
