My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

EMMY is a 7 year old black spayed female Lab who weighs 65 pounds. She is a friendly, sweet lab who is a wonderful companion. She loves to be with you and has liked every creature she has met, even a kitten who shared her food! She has no aggression concerns at all. We have been taking her out a lot and she has been in playgroup with other dogs and even hung out with our resident kitten and shared her food with her. She has been a demo dog for Junior Volunteer training and loves kids and is awesome with them. She's incredibly sweet! She is so excited to get out but still will always run over to check back with you. She and is a leaner and a snuggler. She did really well on her cat and dog test; she is both cat and dog compatible. Despite being 7 years old, she is very energetic and excited about life. She doesn't like life in a kennel much, but is thrilled to spend time with volunteers. The shelter vet believes she has a degenerative nerve problem affecting her hind legs. She's approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (9/26): Emmy is one of the sweetest dogs around! She is a smart, 7 year old female. She is super mellow and easygoing. She has a spinal neuropathy which causes her to sometimes drag her rear feet/legs and lose balance. She can go up and down a few steps. She loves to walk around a grassy yard. Looking for a home where the owner is home more often than not. She would be a perfect match for someone who loves to give and get affection, is home regularly, and would like to do short strolls on grass with their pet. Emmy is good with dogs but prefers to be the center of attention.

Update (7/11): Emmy is an absolute lady. She enjoys slow short walks. She is very calm until she hears a squeaky toy, and then she turns into a pup who loves rolling over with her toys. She does not climb on furniture even if you ask her to. She knows commands like sit, stay and come here. She walks absolutely fine, but she stumbles a lot on regular and hardwood floors, so she would do best in a home with carpeted floors, or area rugs/runners. All in all a very calm and mellow girl who mostly gives you some love and then keeps to herself.

Update (7/10): Emmy was an angel during the car ride. Absolutely no peep not even when there was thunder. She is soo lovable and cute. She loves squeaky toys and is totally settled in.

Update (6/29): Emmy loves her people and enjoys playing fetch.

Update (6/20): Emmy is the absolute sweetest, low-maintenance doggy. She is beautiful with a thick, shiny black coat. She's a big doggy at 80 lbs! So far she's been perfect crated during the work day. She gets super excited when her foster gets home from work but doesn't whine or bark when she leaves (or ever!). She also hasn't jumped once. No issues going up and down stairs with her legs though, nor on walks. So far no issues with other doggies on walks - she is interested but doesn't do anything besides sniff. On the leash, she is great for short walks but might do well on a harness for longer walks in more "interesting" areas that have more stimulation that she wants to wander away to investigate. Overall, she is just the sweetest thing and perfect for anyone looking for a low-maintenance companion to follow you around and be ready for pets when you're ready to give them.

Update (5/31): Emmy is a very calm pup- she loves giving kisses and getting chin scratches. She loves hanging out under your legs, especially when she is outside. Nothing makes Emmy happier than soaking in the rays while she is getting pet. She walks with a loose leash, when using the gentle leader harness- no pulling whatsoever! Emmy isn't a fan of the crate, but has done wonderfully gated off in the kitchen when left alone. She just loves her dog bed - she loves nuzzling and cuddling into it's every nook and cranny! Call your adoption coordinator and make this love-bug a member of your family right now!
