We can't believe we are actually getting to finally post Missy for a real home! This girl came to us 2 years ago from the kill list at our local county shelter! She was extremely emaciated, heavy heartworm positive, missing most of her hair, full of parasites and had a litter of puppies in tow! Missy at that time was far to ill to continue nursing puppies and they were pulled off of her and then later adopted out! At that time, we sent Missy to a hospice foster thinking she had very limited time due to the severity of her heartworms! This girl just had such a will to live she proved us all wrong! At initial intake she was not a candidate for fast kill treatment because her heartworms were so severe she would have never lived through the fast kill treatment so we chose the slow kill method! She was retaining 10-15 lbs of fluid in her abdomen and around her heart, she coughed constantly and even threw up blood! She was put on 5 medications to keep her comfortable until her day came but lucky for Missy that day never did! Missy had her check up last February and was cleared to come off all medications and she is now doing fabulous. She did still test light heartworm positive. In October she had a probeart injection to continue her slow kill treatment and we are hoping when tested at the end of March to get a negative result! Missy is such a playful and happy girl that you would never know for the last 2 years she's been plagued with one major medical issue after another! She lives life to the fullest and is happy at all times! She loves toys and treats. She will do anything for a ball. She walks well on a leash and does well in the car. She is completely kennel trained! She loves to give kisses and is very well mannered. Her only true down fall was she was very dog selective and wasa little possessive with toys. Missy has underwent a training program with Milton K9 Academy and has just flourished since working with Steve. She has learned all basic commands. She does well with dogs of all sizes. She can be around dogs with all types of personalities and can now be fed and play with toys while in a pack setting. She has taken to the children in one of the programs Steve runs. She has become quite the hiker although older and a little slower than most she still loves it. She also loves to romp in the creek while on their hikes. Trainer Steve said she's extremely intelligent and willing to please. All of which is common with her breed mix. Her training is guaranteed for life through Milton K9 Academy and her trainer is willing to meet with any potential adopters to ensure they understand Missy and she is going to the best possible home. It has been an extremely long expensive road with Missy but we are so glad we have this girl a chance. Look at her now all pretty, healthy and wishing for a home to call her own! Missy is a border collie/Aussie mix around 5-6 years old and she weighs 40 lbs now but could stand to lose a few she sure LOVES to eat. She's utd and spayed! If interested in this special girl please send us a pm with you email for the application. She has so much love to give and would make someone the perfect companion.
