We can't believe we are actually getting to finally post Missy for a real home! This girl came to us almost 2 years ago from the kill list at our local county shelter! She was extremely emaciated, heavy heartworm positive, missing most of her hair, full of parasites and had a litter of puppies in tow! Missy at that time was far to ill to continue nursing puppies and they were pulled off of her and then later adopted out! At that time, we sent missy to a hospice foster thinking she had very limited time due to the severity of her heartworms! This girl just had such a will to live she proved us all wrong! At initial intake she was not a candidate for fast kill treatment because her heartworms were so severe she would have never lived through the fast kill treatment so we chose the slow kill method! She was retaining 10-15 lbs of fluid in her abdomen and around her heart, she coughed constantly and even threw up blood! She was put on 5 medications to keep her comfortable until her day came but lucky for Missy that day never did! Missy had her check up in February and was cleared to come off all medications and she is now doing fabulous. She did still test light heartworm positive. In October she had a probeart injection to continue her slow kill treatment and we are hoping we will get a negative read in the near future! Missy is such a playful and happy girl that you would never know for the last 2 years she's been plagued with one major medical issue after another! She lives life to the fullest and is happy at all times! She loves toys and treats. She walks well on a leash and does well in the car. She is completely kennel trained! She loves to give kisses! Her only down fall is she is very dog selective and can be a little possessive with toys. Missy in currently in a 6 week training program to help her with these issues and she's doing fabulous. We are hoping Missy's issues will corrected completely once training is complete as she is showing great improvements! She still probably would do best in a home without a dominate dog! Proper introductions will always be a must with her! Her trainer said she is extremely intelligent and has a drive to work and please! He's getting her on the the agility course and she's loving it! Missy has sure had it rough but she never gave up and neither did we! Look at her now all pretty in pink and wishing for a home to call her own! Missy is a border collie mix around 5-6 years old and she weighs 34lbs. She's utd and spayed!

About Wags and Whiskers

About Our Rescue Group...

Wags and Whiskers is a FOSTER based small rescue along the Gulf Coast. We take in dogs from local shelters, strays and from individuals who are in need of help. We can only take in dogs that we have a foster space available for and that space is limited due to the shear number of unwanted dogs in our area. Our primary veterinarian is Dr. David Martin at Parkway Animal Hospital. He oversees all medical treatment. All dogs are current on vaccinations, dewormed, heartworm tested if they are over 6 months of age and are altered before adoption. PARKWAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL DOES NOT HOUSE OUR DOGS ONLY PROVIDE MEDICAL TREATMENT! We have an adoption process that consist of an online application that can be emailed to you, reference check, meet and greet and home visit. Adoptions will not be finalized until all procedures listed have been completed. We do not adopt on a first come first serve basis but to the best home for that particular animal when there are multiple applicants. If you are interested in more more information please email

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our dogs are in foster homes, but we are very easy and flexible to set an appointment up with to meet one of our animals once the adoption application is approved. We also participate regularly at adoption events with other local rescues.

Our Adoption Process...

All adoptions are subject to adoption application, reference checks and home visit/meet and greet with the potential adopters. We do NOT adopt on a first come first serve basis, but to the home we fill is the best fit for that particular animal of there are multiple applicants. The adoption fee is $150 for all animals which includes all age appropriate shots, wormer, heart worm test if of age, rabies if of age, spay/neuter, monthly preventatives while in our care, and any other medical attention that may be needed.
