My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Daisy: 8 - 11 Year old Black Purebred Lab Spayed Female 50 Pounds

Woof! I am Daisy. I was rescued from a backyard near Yuba City in February 2014 where I’d been confined to a small muddy cage. Since then, I’ve been cared for by some great humans… and have regained my figure and my strength. I am rather small as far as labs go – weighing in at a lovely 52 pounds. I’ve seen several vets, and they have guided me back to health. Now I don’t mind eating my meals alongside other dog pals -- so long as all the other dogs are cool too and my human gives us our own private place to eat.

I recently spent six weeks with a dog trainer-guru, getting max guidance on how to be a dog. This was awesome. I am learning how to play with other dogs (check out my video) or even just hang with a pack. Yeah, I will admit that I do get quite anxious when my humans go away or I can’t see them. “Please don’t leave me in that backyard cage again!” I need you humans to teach me to not be so anxious. This will take some time but with each passing week, I am learning to trust that life is good, that people care and that all these great new changes are not temporary. I am a quick learner and I really want a home in which to flourish and become the whole dog I was meant to be.

Here is what Daisy’s foster-trainer has to say:

Daisy loves her daily walks and is very easy to walk. She will rarely pull on the leash and just loves to be out in the fresh air exploring new places. She will appear tense when meeting a new dog but if the other dog is calm and relaxed and friendly, she will reciprocate all of this. She is happy to share the water bowl and has an extra soft mouth taking treats. Overall she is a pretty calm dog and loves all dogs and people of different shapes sizes and colors. She does get a little excited when she realizes it's meal but is relaxing around this more and more as she learns to trust that it IS going to come. Daisy is a sweet, smart girl who wants to learn. She loves the challenge of learning new commands and does them.

She will still bark occasionally if left alone at home or in a vehicle, but we find this neediness is diminishing. What she needs most is to believe that all of her basic needs will be met that she will always have enough food and water and someone to protect and guide her and most of all who will return to her and give her all of this again and again! She loves her crate and is quite content in it. She will need to continue using one to help her feel more secure and to help ward off separation anxiety. I would recommend at least two training sessions from me with Daisy’s new owner. One, to set up all of the in-home protocol and structure -- extremely important for her -- and a second lesson, if needed, as a follow-up to anything that comes up.

What her GGLRR rep says:

We would love for Daisy to be adopted into a 1-dog home by a person or family dedicated to giving her the structured and disciplined environment key for Daisy’s continued rehabilitation. It is possible for her to be in a 2-dog home as long as the other dog is balanced and more of the laid-back type and as long as the home environment is structured – especially at meal time.

Daisy is spayed, micro-chipped, is current on all shots and in good health. Her target weight is probably in the 55-lb range, so she is a smaller-than-usual lab. She is incredibly affectionate toward humans and very interested in the world around her.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
