Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Brooklyn here! If you’re a JRT rescue advocate on social media, you might have seen me before. It’s not often that a northern dog makes a southern trip; quite the opposite with the kill shelter ratio in the South, but you know Mama Donna’s heart for those seniors who have lost everything …
My human was too old to take care of me and was sent to a rest home. The family didn’t want to care for me, so off I went to the kill shelter. The volunteers the the shelter could not fathom me being put down after all of that loss and they knew I would be, given my health issues. Despite those challenges, I am full of spirit and life and I want to carry on the legacy of love I knew all of those years.
I arrived here in April 2014, but have spent a good portion of it at the vet. I have heart issues, am uncomfortably overweight, have an ongoing respiratory infection and (zoiks!!) I have kidney stones. My heart is too weak to have them removed surgically, so I am now on a special Science Diet s/d to help dissolve the stones. I’ve passed one, but have more.
Despite all of this, I’m still happy and smiling. I love exploring the field and being held. Once I get over this initial hurdle, I am going to make someone else a wonderful senior dog. If you love older, special-needs sweethearts, I’m your man!
