What can be more adorable than a litter of puppies? Happy times in a loving family are what await Mama Cass’s puppies. And for every one of these puppies that goes to a family, the dog that could have been adopted by them from Animatch or any rescue/shelter is without a home. For many of the dogs and puppies that have not made it out to a rescue this could translate to certain death. Every year thousands of dogs find their way to Quebec rescues/shelters because there are more dogs than available homes. . Yes, puppy mills and backyard breeders are part of the problem but equally responsible is the friend, neighbour, family member who just can’t be bothered. People must take responsibility for their companion animals by having them spayed or neutered. Forget the age-old myth that sterilization changes a dog's temperament. In fact, dogs will be just as playful, friendly, aloof, timid, happy, anxious, silly, affectionate, food-motivated, or gentle as before being fixed. Sterilization is a routine, affordable surgery that can prevent thousands of animals from being born, many of whom face a daily struggle of neglect, cruelty and homelessness. Communities all across the province spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars coping with problems that failure to sterilize has caused. The cost of sterilization is far lower than the expense of catching strays, feeding and housing them, and euthanizing those for whom homes can’t be found. If this makes you sad, you are not alone.

On May 27th, Mama Cass gave birth to 7 puppies (6 boys, Jagger, Clapton, Dylan, Tyler, Mercury, Morrison, and 1 girl, Stevie). Mama’s job for the next few weeks will be teaching them all they need to know to become well socialized, confident puppies. When her job is done, Mama Cass will go to a home where her sole purpose is to be on the receiving end of her guardian's total love and affection.
