Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hey Yall, I'm Willow from down in Georgia--one of those 15-inch beagles, sturdy as a horse. I'm a young adult, probably between 2 and 4 years old; no one kept my birth certificate even though I came from a purebred beagle breeder. I can run all day with the kids, hike the trails with the athletes in the family, bugle the news that someone's coming down the driveway and snuggle next to a invalid for hours at a time. That's me---flexible to a fault. Got my start in a hunting kennel, but hey, I was waaaaay too personable for that kind of life!
Recently one of the volunteers, Gwen, was trying to encourage a shy dog named Wendi that being petted was a pleasure not a threat. I surprised both of them by going over there, inserting my beagle body between them and encouraging the shy dog. The other volunteer was so excited over my concern she took a photo of us. I don't know why everyone got so excited, that's just the kind of dog I am, ready to do what it takes to comfort those I love. I guess qualities like that go unnoticed when you are just a kennel dog. You can see that photo in my collection.
Now volunteer Gwen has taken me in as a foster dog. I got that gig mainly because I'm good at steadying nervous creatures of any kind. The lovely but shy Wendi was Gwen's foster project so she brought me along to help calm Wendi. I did such a good job with the delicate Wendi that she has now gone to a home of her own. Dogs that need socializing! They get all the attention. Hey, what about us dogs that don't need any socializing; I was born social.
Now that I'm living at her house, Gwen was surprised to find out that I have excellent house manners and I don't pay any attention to her old cat. She's found out I love to be around men along with all their attributes from beards and boots to sunglasses and caps--the things that scare a lot of rescue dogs. In fact it was her husband who took one look at me and said "Willow's not a name for a beagle! I'm calling him Willie B." So now she calls me Willow and he calls me Willie B. but I don't care which way they say it, just so someone calls me and gives me the pleasure of hearing my name spoken by a human. Gwen says I'm ready for a real home. If she only knew---I've been ready a long time, maybe with you? Take a good look at my pictures and see if we connect.
