My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mari is 18 months old female mix. We are not sure what she is mixed with as she is on the smaller side. She is tri colored with a semi rough coat. Mari was completely unsocialized when she came into our program. She has been in foster care fore about 5 months and she continues to blossom with each day. She was skittish and frightened from almost everything in the house, including fast and sudden movements, strong light, TV noise, and mostly her male foster dad. When she entered to the house, she would find her corner in the kitchen and from that place she observed life in her foster home.

Today, her favorite place is under the kitchen table in the corner. She runs to her corner to rest, eat or to get a treat. Mari is still puppy like and needs proper chew toys. She is still skittish when she first meets people, and she is the one who needs to approach you. Once she knows and trusts you, you will find a very lovable and loyal dog.

She is very friendly with other dogs. She loves to play in the back yard chasing each other or running around with a toy. She is the one that tries to get the ball and run all around the house. She is a good swimmer with a lot of energy, and loves trips to the beach. At this point, her recall is not good enough to be taken off leash, and she would require formal recall training.

She is gaining confidence and trust, and she is ready for her forever home. The ideal home for Mari is a quieter one without a lot of stimulus. She would prefer not to be the only dog, as she really thrives and comes to life around other dogs. Mari requires a person who is willing to invest the time and patience in her to help build her confidence.

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please go on line and fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
