My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Blondie: 2 year old spayed female Yellow Lab/American Bull Dog 75 lbs

Blondie is an owner surrender as Blondie was not getting along with the neighbor’s dog and although her behavior is manageable the owners felt they couldn’t give Blondie what she needs. The owners describe her as an energetic dog that gets very excited at first but is only interested in meeting you and playing. Blondie loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. She is a very happy friendly dog that needs more attention, training and exercise than the current owners can give her. Blondie is crate trained. She picks up quickly and really wants to please. She knows sit and with a correction collar she will walk well on leash. She loves to go for car rides. She has not been around cats but she does get excited when she sees them so a home with no cats would be best. She isn’t the best at meeting new dogs but can hang out once introduced properly.

We have Blondie in a foster home with dog trainer Caity of Balanced Behavior Dog Training where she is helping her with some great training- this is what she has to say about her:

I am very pleased with her progress. Blondie knew a small amount of obedience already, as I had been working with the owner. Using a correction collar, I am working on heel, down, wait, stay, potty, come (for recall), off, and no. Blondie can walk very nicely on a leash. She sometimes can get excited but with a correction will calm down. I am working on our introduction to other dogs. Blondie has a hard time meeting new dogs at home but with an experienced owner can learn to hang out. She currently lives with my male puggle without a problem. She does have a desire to chase cats and would do best in a home without them. She wants to please, though distractions can throw that off, especially if a ball is involved. She is crate and house trained. She will lie quietly and snooze if nothing is going on. Rides in the car ok on tie-down. Can be left alone in a crate for a few hours but may bark or whine if anyone else is home while she’s in the crate. Loves to play ball. She is not the best with body sensitivity and at times will knock into you. She does fine with bath and ear cleaning. She attends a local doggie daycare and can play and board just fine there. Generally she is a happy, affectionate dog. She accepts my leadership and is a pleasure to have around.

The adopter needs to be an experienced dog owner. They must be a person who will lead Blondie and not let Blondie lead them. Blondie wants a home where she will be part of the pack and a home that she can show you Blondes have more fun! Blondie has all her shots, is spayed, is heartworm negative and is microchipped. (She has no health issues.) She always has a smile on her face - one happy girl. She is located in Santa Rosa.

If you are interested in adopting this fun girl, please contact rep Caity at 707-836-3033.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
