Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi – My name is Miss Xena, and I am a 75 lb. sweet, loveable seven-year old black Lab. I have a beautiful, sweet face, and soft black fur, with a few brown spots on my sides. I am very calm and easy going- nothing upsets me or excites me, except food and your attention. My favorite thing in the world is to have you rub my belly or pet my head. I just want to be around you; I can usually be found sleeping inches away from someone’s feet, sleeping comfortably.
I am extremely well behaved: I listen when I am called, sit, shake and high five on command. I am non-destructive and I don’t bark. When my foster family is gone, I get the complete run of the house and I’ve never done anything wrong. Since I’ve been in my foster home, I’ve been constantly introduced to new people, young children, other dogs and I am always friendly and calm; I just go with the flow, and everyone who meets me falls in love with me. I’m also very forgiving: when my foster family’s cat attacks me unprovoked, I just back right up and leave the room. I even won the little kitty’s heart, and now she doesn’t mind spending time with me.
I love going for walks, and I am great on the leash. I walk at your pace, and I don’t pull (except when a rabbit runs right by me). I get along very well with other dogs, although a few times I’ve growled at other dogs when I think they are trying to steal my foster mom’s attention. I guess I get jealous. But mostly I just cruise along, happy to be outside.
My ideal weight is probably around 8-10 pounds less than I weigh right now, so I am currently watching what I eat, and trying to increase the distance I walk each day. I am also on a daily thyroid medicine that will hopefully help me lose weight and increase my energy level. Also, when I came to SCLRR, I was itching constantly and biting my paws, but each day I’ve been itching less and less. Hopefully my thyroid medication and my new grain free food will help improve that condition, but I could struggle with allergies my whole life (which means my owner needs to be willing to try various treatments to keep me feeling good, should that be necessary.)
But although I have a few health needs that require my owner’s attention, overall I am a low-maintenance, easy-going sweetheart just looking for my forever family.
