My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bear is a real sweetheart of a dog who will steal your heart instantly. He is a very quiet boy who just loves to be with his people. Bear loves to go on his walks, laying in the backyard in the sun, running and playing hard and loves belly rubs. Bear is a very intelligent boy. He know many of his basic commands...sit, stay, down, off, up. He also knows how to give a paw and knows when told it's bedtime that means it's time for the crate. Bear barks very rarely and loves meeting new people. Bear is approximately 3 - 4 years old and currently weighs just under 50 lbs.

Here is what else his foster family had to say:

Bear is a very well mannered dog. He listens very well and tries hard to please his people. When he is corrected about something he has done wrong, he will give the sad eyes and try to cuddle up with you. He is a real cuddle bug and loves to have his belly rubbed. Being a Border Collie between the ages of 2 and 3 I find him to be a very calm dog. Bear seems to love people of all ages. He has been around younger children and behaves quite well with them. He doesn't seem to show any shyness towards people. He is always happy to receive hugs and kisses. We have two cats in the house and Bear doesn't bother them at all...they have actually gotten to the point where they will rub heads now but he has never chased them or shown any aggression towards them. Bear seems to get really excited when he is close to other large dogs. He wants to sniff them and gets quite playful but when he sees smaller dogs he doesn't seem to bother with them.

Bear seems to look very healthy. He appears a bit thin but is eating very well now. He is getting a shine back in his coat and gets brushed every second day. For the most part I would describe Bear as being a low to moderate energy dog. Bear doesn't seem to shed a great deal but he gets brushed about every two days so that keeps the shedding to a minimum.

Bear has been left alone in the house on many occasions and shows no signs of anxiety. There has never been any sign of barking or crying when he is left alone. Bear does not seem to have any fear. He walks every day and doesn't seem to be bothered by the loudness around him. He has been around when fireworks have been going off and seems not to even notice anything. Bear is a very quiet dog in the house. He rarely ever barks and that is usually only when someone knocks at the door and then it is only a few barks and he is finished.

Bear definitely had obedience training prior to coming into our care. Bear knows how to come when told, sit when told, lie down when told, he knows what off means, he knows what stay means but still needs to work with that one, and he knows how to give a paw. He has not had an accident in the house since day one of having him. He will either go to the door and look back at you or he will come and stare at you to let you know he needs to go outside. Bear is crate trained. The door is left open at all times so he can come and go as he pleases. He is only crated at night when we are sleeping or when we are gone from the house. When left in the crate he does not bark or cry. He will curl in his blanket and usually sleep. Bear is trained to walk on a leash. He is very well behaved and very easy to walk. When told to "sit" at a corner his will sit and not move until he hears "ok". Bear is not one to beg for food. He will keep his eyes on you when you are setting at the table but will soon leave or lie down once he finds he is getting nothing. He does not counter surf and has never stolen food. We do however have to watch him closely when it is wet food time for the cats...he does try to wiggle his way to the dishes if he is not watched.

If someone was considering adopting Bear I would want them to know that he is a very special little guy. I would want them to know that he loves to take long walks, and a place to run and romp. Bear is a very well behaved dog and shows signs of already having some obedience training and that this is something that they should try to follow through on. Bear would be best in a home with people who can give him lots of love and belly rubs. Bear would be fine in a home with cats and other friendly dogs.

If you think Bear would be a good addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
