My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ashley is a very loving young girl who is just the best mix of cuddle and play. She is a very happy and healthy pup. She may have some further growing and filling out to do but currently weighs 43 lbs. We believe she is approximately 8 - 10 months of age. She is great with people of all ages and other pets including cats. She would be great in a home with another dog to play with and being a puppy, where someone is home to supervise and continue with her training.

Here is what else Ashley's foster family had to say:

Ash still has many 'puppy ways' about her. She is a bundle of energy and then she just konks right out. Her feet seem a little big for her body and she has pristine white teeth. Everything is a toy and she wants to put her mouth on everything- she even turned on the vacuum by herself. As most younger dogs do, she wants lots of play time. We have a senior dog who usually puts other dogs in line that he does not want to play. As most puppies do, she misreads the signal as 'Lets play this way'. When she is not in sight and not in the room, you need to go see what she has found to turn into entertainment. Everything is a toy in her world!

Ash loves everyone. We have had company here including children and she was a model citizen if a little overexcited when they first arrived. Everyone falls immediately in love with her. She has displayed no aggression. She has met quite a number of dogs and people at home and outside. She just wants to play. She was a little shy of a couple of young men in ball caps and a couple of horses. She is hesitant with a dog that is more energetic than she. She wants other dogs and the cat to play with her. Cats seem to like her right back. We have one who is quite comfortable with her and our neighbours cat, who is usually quite skittish, just sat and let Ash nuzzle her. The old dog and the cats are not as receptive when Ash wants to play. When they have snapped or swatted at her, she has not retaliated except to continue inviting them to play.

Ash will play by herself with a ball or toy. She loves, loves toys. WE keep them in a basket and she goes shopping for something to amuse herself. She 'talks' to them and tosses them and chews away on them.
We have a routine of getting in the car and going to a large park for our walks. She has already learned this routine and gets excited. She jumps readily into the car and is a good traveller. At the park she loves to run and play with other dogs. She loves to go in the water and play, too.

Ash will sit nicely when we are eating at the table. She is aware of everything and would be happy to take food off the counter but has not done so as yet. She helps clean the dishes while I am loading the dishwasher LOL The best thing about her is that she wants to be with you and we are therefore already comfortable with her off leash. She will come to us quite nicely. She does not know her commands but we believe she will learn quickly as she is bright and eager to please. Ashley is house trained and is good at signalling you (whining, circling, going to the door) that she needs to go out. She has been sleeping in the crate beside our bed and does so very nicely. She does not like to be in the crate the moment you are out of sight and instead we leave her in a room with the other dogs while we are out of the house and she does fine. She is is nearly leash trained. She still tends to have tension on the leash and stay a little ahead of you but not over pulling or difficult. When she first came to us I have the feeling she had not been in a car much. Now, she jumps right in and loves to stick her nose out the window. She stays in the backseat and shares the space with another dog without issues.

If you are looking for a real companion, make you laugh, running mate, sleep on the bed with you dog, I think you have found your match. Ashley would do well in a home with another active dog with opportunities to run. She may hurt younger children in her exuberance especially when first meeting or playing. Owners with previous dog experience would be best for this active girl. I would suggest she is not appropriate in a home where you will be leaving her unattended for long periods of time.

If you have the time and desire to work with a puppy and would like to add Ashley to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
