My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our darling Diva, Sasha, is bursting with personality and just loves to mug for the camera! She always makes an explosive entrance and clamors for all the love and attention she can get. Sasha is the essence of "Terrier," and strikes just the right cord of high energy havoc that Terrier people love in their little imps. Sasha knows how to disarm anyone with her snuggles and kisses, but give her an inch...and she'll take a mile!

Sasha was found abandoned in a building by Animal Control Officers, called in by concerned neighbors. Sasha went willingly, and seemed to crave human contact from the get-go. As she settled into her stark shelter surroundings, Sasha continued to earn positive behavior evaluations, but caught the shelter kennel cough, and then was excluded from the adoption program.

We invited Sasha to our country place for some quality healing time, and she kicked the KC right away. We noticed that Sasha is overwhelmed by a large dog pack and think that she may have some residual stress related to a previous run in with an aggressive dog. Sasha does fine with one-to-one dog interaction, if properly introduced, and could join an active home with another balanced, well trained dog. In public, she will need continued exposure and socialization to groups of dogs at venues like dog parks, vet offices, etc.

Sasha would be a great choice for an active family with older kids, or the adult home of a single or couple, who have the time to focus on her exercise and training. Sasha is an energetic little sprite, who needs at least 2 to 3 brisk leash walks each day to channel her energy.

Sasha appears to be a creative mix of two Terrier breeds: Australian and West Highland. Her coat is wiry, like the Aussie, and has a slight fringe to it. She is two toned, caramel, and the signature white of the Westie. Her coat is low shedding and requires minimal grooming. Sasha was a bit chubby when she came to us, at 26 pounds, but she has slimmed nicely to an ideal weight of 22.

Sasha needs continued obedience training to focus her mental and physical energy, and adopters will find Sasha easy to handle and a pleasure to work with. She has been responsive to positive rewards and leadership techniques and has the potential to fulfill Canine Good Citizenship requirements.

Sasha's has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters are expected to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur during her adjustment to a new routine. She is in excellent health and has been neutered. She has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
