My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am a sweet and reserved fellow with a passion for tennis. I absolutely adore time outdoors playing fetch. I am a bit nervous meeting new folks but when I see a tennis ball in their hand it definitely starts to sway me in their favor. Rocky is the name I go by but some have suggested I change it to Houdini because of my ability to disappear! You may recognize me from a few months back. I was adopted by a very nice family but because of my timid nature I managed to take off when I got startled and it took a couple of weeks and a lot of dedicated folks (thank you to the volunteers at Granite State Dog Recovery) to make sure I made my way back safely. I am a strikingly handsome fellow and although it takes me longer than lots to create a tight bond, when I do I am a loving, loyal and sweet-hearted companion. I am not too sure about other dogs but do seem to get along with most “smaller than me” pooches. With my more timid personality and “flight risk” tendencies, until we have bonded that is, I am a Special Needs adoption. That means I am waiting for an extra special home and family. I am looking for an adult home and one that has a fully fenced in yard so I will not have as much chance to show off my vanishing skills. I am active and love to walk and play outdoors. I am about 2 years old and full grown at about 70 pounds. I ride well in the car, walk nicely on a leash and keep my kennel space clean. I really blossom with routine. I am happiest when I know what to expect and what is expected of me so I want a family who has lots of dog experience and one who enjoys training. The folks here think I have some Akita in my family tree and my former owners said I was a Shepherd mix so the folks here are guessing me to be a combination of the two. Akita’s are a strong, independent and dominant breed, commonly reserved with strangers but affectionate with family members. They can be territorial about its property, and can be reserved with strangers. Akita's are an intelligent, courageous and careful dog. If you love Akitas and Shepherds, have the time, understanding and love to give an adult rescue along with the fenced in yard and type of routine I need then I am interested in meeting you.
