Neo is a 10-month-old Italian Greyhound Mix who weighs about 13 lbs. (he is probably mixed with Chihuahua, also known as the hybrid, “Greyhuahua.”) Neo is shy when you first meet him, but soon warms up. He is a quiet, loving and affectionate sweetheart, but can also play with other dogs, large and small. He is a great little buddy who will hang out with you, go on car rides, sit with you, and even sleep in your bed with you. He likes to be on your lap for short periods, but mostly just wants to be in the same room as you. Neo is essentially a companion dog. When there is no one to play with, he loves playing with stuffed toys and can flip his own tennis ball or toy and chase it. He does not appear to be a toy chewer. He shows no aggression with other dogs; even those that are a bit more over-bearing than he is. In his foster home, he plays equally well with a 60 lb. Golden Retriever and 18 lb. Westie. He is quiet but as most dogs, he will bark to alert. He shows no signs of separation anxiety after a few days getting used to his new home. It will probably take him a couple weeks for his real personality to come out due to his shyness.

Neo has had no potty incidents and has not marked, but as with most new dogs he should be watched for a couple days. He responds well to verbal correction. He is crate-trained and can sleep in a small wire crate at night but prefers to sleep with the other dogs in the house or with people. He sleeps all night long without any whining or barking. He walks well on the leash using a harness or mesh type vest. If you want him to walk next to you, you will need to do a bit of training. A regular collar will not do as he can squirm out of it when walking and it provides no correction ability. He has not had formal obedience training but is responding well to sit and stay with treats.

Neo lives in a foster home with three dogs and one cat. The cat stays away but he shows no sign of aggression to the cat, just excitement. He is fine with other dogs and has lived in a larger pack. He could be the only dog in the home, but would also do well with another non-aggressive dog of any size. While he has not been around children, it seems as if Neo would be fine with kids as long as their old enough to understand how to be nice to the dog. Neo eats well but prefers his kibble a little moist with a touch of wet food mixed in, or, just Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. He would probably prefer to nibble at his food, free feeding style, but has learned to eat it all with three dogs in competition, again, with the Parmesan cheese incentive. He likes his daily rawhide chew.

Neo’s best fit is a home with another friendly dog to hang out with, or, as an only dog whereby the people are not gone for extended hours on a daily basis. Neo is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Neo, please contact Angels Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com.
