My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Picture
Destiny is a 1 1/2 year old female black Great Dane. She is a wonderful energetic girl who is very smart and loves to please her humans. She was adopted from a shelter in February with little known history. She came into our home and settled in very quickly. She is crate trained , house trained, she will sit and stay for her food, she walks well on a leash but sometimes forgets not to pull if there is something of interest. She loves to be on her bed in the living room and just be near her people. She learns very quickly and is highly motivated by food. Destiny is still a puppy and is easily excited, she is very interested in sights and sounds and seems to have had limited exposure up until now. She has not met a person she does not like ( men and women ) she has not been around children. She has a very strong personality and can be stubborn until she knows who is in charge. Destiny would do well in a home with adults and a daily routine. She counter surfs, but is slowly learning that this is something she is not suppose to do. :-) Destiny is missing two toes on her front foot, but that does not slow her down. Due to limited socialization she does not do well with other dogs. She loves her people and wants to be with them and not have to share. Destiny is a wonderful girl and is a great companion. She should be an only dog and shouldn't be places with kids younger than 12. Cats are unknown at this time.

Update 10-15-14 - Destiny was spayed the 10th and is recovering well. She is definitely a snuggler and loves to give kisses and leans. She still wants to put her paws on your shoulders, but will stop with a strong "Down". She doesn't bark much and will do anything for food. However she does respect the dinner table and counters - she's really interested, but hasn't stolen anything. She loves chew treats and being with her people. Though once she had to choose between them and decided to hide her treat in the closet to go be with her people. Later when we were in the bedroom, she went to get it and finish it while she could have both. She rides well in the car and did well at the vets', though we made sure she wasn't close to any other dogs. She has been favoring or holding up the paw with the missing toes. Not sure if this is how she normally is or if it's because the hardwood/tile floors are different - I would suspect that long walks or runs on asphalt/cement could wear a raw spot on it unless she learns to wear a bootie. Destiny loves to sleep and will happily nap next to you while you work on the computer, watch TV or sleep in on the weekends. She crates very easily and only left a mess once when she had the runs for the first 3 days she was with us. She's quite dainty and agile - she jumps over rather than accidentallystep in her poo and can leap in the Suburban with ease. She's been very good around the horses. She'll walk with me and a horse from the barn to the pasture without fuss. Destiny has preferred me over my husband and when I'm outside, Destiny will follow my progress from window to window. My husband is wishing for 4 legs, so he can get as much attention as Destiny does. :) Destiny has shied away from belts and rolled up magazines and has jumped at loud noises, most likely from her time before the shelter. I still think she shouldn't be around small dogs or young children, and we'll see how she does around Danes this coming weekend.
