My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 7/26/14!!!

7/13/14 Foster Mom Update: Scooter went swimming today, and while he was not totally sure of what the water was all about, he did not mind it too much. He got a bath afterwards and was all fluffy and clean. Scooter met my cousin's Poodles and enjoyed their company. Scooter was with their cat too. He walks well on a leash but is very curious about the squirrels and rabbits he encounters. He has been so laid back with everything else though. Loves sleeping on his dog bed. He really is a sweetheart!

Scooter's Story: Many, many decades ago, it was considered the norm to allow dogs to roam free, especially in rural areas. There were fewer cars on the road and dogs were less often considered members of the family as they are today. Many dogs lived on table scraps and slept outside - it was just the way life was. Needless to say, the life expectancy of dogs was much shorter back then. And sadly, there were many more unwanted and stray dogs that ended up being euthanized. Scooter is one of those dogs whose former owner's mindset did not move into the 21st century and he was picked up as a stray, roaming around a construction site in AL. The workers there fed him for about 2 weeks but realized he needed a better life than life on the streets. SGRR has promised to find Scooter a fur-ever family where he will be loved and cherished.

Scooter has a typical Golden personality and is incredibly sweet! He loves to be rubbed and petted! Scooter is about 2 years old and has all the features of a Golden Retriever but weighs only about 39 lbs. It’s your guess as to what went into his unique DNA mix! He got along especially nicely with one of the female dogs that he was pals with at the shelter, but he loves all he meets - dogs, cats, kids, people of all ages. He has a mellow personality and comes when called. His foster mom told us, " I can't believe I have fallen in love with my first foster dog. He is a pure delight and is my new best friend. I have already found out that he loves the bed and sleeping in it. He did great all night and so far so good on his potty habits." Scooter-pie loves riding in the car and considers himself a front seat dog! He sits nicely in the passenger seats and looks out the window. He even went to work with his foster mom and charmed all of her co-workers. This boy is a true companion dog and is ready to be your new best pal.

Scooter has been neutered, is up-to-date on vaccinations, and is heartworm negative. He is ready to grab his leash and “go home!”

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
