My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A volunteer writes:
The Personality and Temperament of Pretty Girl, aka Bella.
Pretty Girl is a very calm, young, laid back Akita, who, when put in an excitable situation she stays when her ‘person’ and waits to be told what to do. Even though I have seen her in situations with children, even allowing children to pet her, I do not believe that she should be put into a home with children. She needs a quiet, caring home, with no young children. These older children would need to understand the breed and be gentle with her, no heavy handed petting, no yelling or crying in her face. Pretty Girl is now indifferent to either gender, she allowed my father to walk her Tuesday and let the photographer pet her. She is curious about other dogs, but does not feel comfortable about the excitement it causes at first. Once she is around the dog for a while, she is fine with it and will even kiss the other dog. In respect to new situations, new people, new environment, new sounds etc. Pretty Girl needs a familiar person with her to tell her that it’s ok. She rides amazingly well in the car, however she is more comfortable if someone is back with her. While she does not have any training whatsoever, she is very polite, and willing to please, you can see it in her eyes when you start to get frustrated with her. Pretty Girl is very protective of her ‘person’, however she is very subtle about it. If you are talking to someone unfamiliar and possibly threatening to her, Pretty Girl will wedge her way between you and the other person, no bark, no teeth, no growling. Instead she just gives the other person a look that says “This is my person, if you hurt her in anyway, we will have a problem.” Once you become special to Pretty Girl, every times she sees you again, or you come over to her, she will start to ‘dance’. She puts her ears back, has a smile on her face, wiggles her body, and while her feet are tapping on the ground her tail is bobbing up and down. She has motherly instincts, if you make a sound like a crying puppy she will run over and sniff you all over and kiss you everywhere to make sure you’re ok. If Pretty Girl finds anything wrong she will lay down and lick your scrape, etc with a paw in your lap. She is an amazing girl that deserves the best of the best.
