Here is Dopey, but he really isn’t at all Dopey, but a normal, very smart, active, playful Australian Shepherd mix! His mother was Australian Shepherd, his father was a Shepherd (we are not sure what kind, we were only told “a shepherd” could have been German or Aussie and may not have been purebred). Dopey is available for adoption right now! We estimate he should be a medium-size dog as an adult, and reach somewhere between 40 - 55 pounds as we do not know specifics about the father.
Please be sure to understand the expectations of the the energy level (typically high) and time dedication a puppy of this breed requires. Please make sure you have “done your homework” on Australian Shepherds to make sure the cute puppy you see right now, will remain a match for your lifestyle later on done the road, when you have a 40 – 50 pound full grown dog. ASRM wants to make sure we can do our best to find homes for these puppies which will be their “forever homes”! We have rescued far too many Aussies where the owner has listed the main reason for giving up as “too high of an energy level for our family” or “cannot give enough time to this dog which it needs”.
