Maddy's Story...
Maddy is a 5 year old female declawed torti. She had a rough few months at the Humane Society where she was not adjusting well to living in a cage. She had come in as a stray so it is unknown how she ended up out on her own. She was shy and scared at first coming into our home but has adjusted well to everything but our 2 year old Jack Russell who wants to play chase with her! She is talkative (to us and the dog!) and will tell us when she wants pets and will often brush her head against our legs to get our attention. She loves to play with string and our 5 year old keeps her well occupied with this game until she tires out. Overall she is a quiet cat who would make a great indoor companion in a dog free home. She requires a bit of time to adjust but after getting familiar with her surroundings, she is happy to perch on a window ledge to look outside and enjoy the sunshine. No issues at all with using her litter box from day 1.

Update (Sept. 2014) from Maddy's foster mom: Maddy has really warmed up and loves attention including snuggling up on my stomach during the night. She is still having a hard time getting 100% comfortable in the house as the dog is still actively chasing her so a house without dogs or with older dogs would be best for Maddy.

Maddy is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. Her adoption donation is $165. All of our cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated as part of their adoption. Please fill out an application at our website You can also reach us by email at

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Maddy, a Cambridge Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Cambridge, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Cambridge.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Cambridge already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Cambridge breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Cambridge paves the way for another one to be saved.
