My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to one of the sweetest most playful puppies ever! This little girl is aptly named for her lucky second chance at life and for all the love she gives. (Love is right in the middle of Clover!). Clover is a gorgeous 4-5 month old Border Collie X puppy. She is a medium sized dog at about 30-45 pounds grown and is full of a lot of energy to handle anything you want to do with her. Clover has a unique brindle and white short smooth coat that she gets many compliments on. She has a very upbeat personality and eyes that just melt your heart.

Clover was rescued from a small, rural pound where her owners didn’t attempt to claim her for 5 days to only change their mind, abandoning her indefinitely to the lonely pound. Clearly her owners were not prepared for such a ball of energy and did not realize the work it takes to properly raise a Border Collie puppy. Clover was taken in to be fostered as we did not want her spending one more day in a pound environment, as every day is an opportunity for socialization and training and we did not want her missing out on this time in her young life! Clover is so smart and would be perfect for a home with owners who are eager to teach a puppy good manners, obedience and show her what love is all about.

Border Collie’s are herding dogs that possess a supernatural amount of energy and stamina - a hardiness that was developed when the breed was required to work all day in the hills and valleys, sometimes running for hours a day. This breed likes to be busy working and is best suited for a family that lives a very active life. With the right training, this breed excels in any activity they try and can be a very loyal companion for life.

Clover is currently attending puppy classes to give her a head start on obedience training. We hope the new owners will want to continue with training her as she matures. This is a must for her. Clover has come a long way in a short period of time walking on a leash as she used to pull and zigzag for lack of proper correction and experience. However, now with the right corrective tools, a Gentle Leader head halter and verbal praise, Clover has begun walking confidently beside her foster parents with little issue. Clover however, loves to run and would do great jogging along side her new owners or playing fetch in the backyard! Sounds and sights are still very new to Clover and she can get easily distracted so it is important her new owners focus on keeping Clovers attention. However, a lot is likely due to her silly puppy brain!

Clover loves her foster dog friends although they are both much smaller and have a hard time keeping up with her witty games of chase! Clover would do best with another dog of equal size and energy or alone with plenty of play dates with other dogs. She would also do well in a home with cats or other pets keeping in mind she is a puppy and will need to be trained on appropriate behavior around these other animals. Clover is in every way a typical puppy and her prospective owners need to be aware that she is a work in progress. Her owners will need to have the patience and time to raise a puppy and train her properly in their home. Clover requires regular outings to go the bathroom and needs to be supervised and not left unattended for long periods of time. Clover has not had any major house training accidents and is praised greatly when she “goes” outside. Housetraining is going great and Clover will be a pro in no time! We have also introduced crate training and this should be continued to ease the transition to a new home. Clover has taken well to the crate and only whines for a short while when initially placed in the crate. She sleeps amazingly at night (after a few long walks of course) and will eat her food in her crate as well.

Being a herding dog Clover naturally wants to herd and is such an energetic puppy that we feel she may be too much for very young kids at this point until she is out of the puppy nipping and jumping stage. She would be a fun playmate though to older kids and in no way does this to mean that Clover is a poor natured pup. Nipping is a stage all puppies go through but the herding puppies do it in play as well. Clover is in fact SUPER friendly and LOVES people! She makes sure to greet everyone very enthusiastically and wants pets from everyone she meets. She always has a silly smile on her face at all times and you can't help but smile back at her. She will bring a lot of love into the home of her new family and is a very fun and playful puppy.

Clover has learned to sit and shake a paw and is very treat influenced. One of Clover’s cutest quirks is her yawns, which she seems to do quite regularly! Clover although full of energy will eagerly offer her belly for rubs and will give you kisses all over. Clover is a perfect mix of love, smarts, and confidence all rolled into a very attractive and huggable package. She can't get enough snuggles!! Anyone interested in dog obedience or dog sports such as agility, rally or flyball etc. would not go wrong selecting this puppy. Whoever her future owners may be are very, very fortunate people. She is one lucky four-leafed Clover!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
