My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charlie is a Take Me Home courtesy post. Charlie is not affiliated with Take Me Home. He is not under our care. Take Me Home is not responsible for any adoptions through private parties. For more information on Charlie or to meet Charlie please email: julia@adogsliferescue.org.

Charlie is a sweet-natured, Boxer / Shepherd mix who was found roaming a state park where he was likely abandoned and where he had been living on his own for months. It is amazing he managed to survive for so long, but now that we have gotten to know him it is not so surprising because this boy is smart! Because in his past he probably was not treated well by people, he does not trust everyone at first and can also be wary of new environments. In fact, when Charlie was first rescued he seemed scared of every one. It is absolutely incredible though how much he has blossomed. With patience and training Charlie is now a dog who enjoys meeting new people, is loyal and excited to see everyone he knows and absolutely loves dog parks. So we are looking for a person or couple who can continue this great progress.

One of Charlie's most amazing qualities is that he is fantastic with other animals. He may not always trust people, but he definitely has a special relationship with the four legged creatures in this world. In fact, at his foster home he not only lived with other dogs but also cats, bunnies, a pot belly pig, goats, chickens and ducks and got along great with everyone.

Again Charlie's nature is definitely gentle, but because he did not have a background where he could trust people it is important that whoever adopts him understand that he still has a lot of fear about the world. New environments and sudden movements startle him. He needs someone who can give him consistency and someone who can be a strong leader for him. Charlie’s a dog’s dog... he will be very loyal to his person (pack) and he wants a consistent leader, he wants to be loved but not coddled and he LOVES exercise. So a great hiking/running companion would be wonderful. At the dog park he absolutely shines and he is even learning to play in water and to fetch.

We would love for him to go into a home with another dog(s) so he can get a lot of playtime, but if he is the only dog in the home he would do great as well as long as he is given time out and about to play with others.
