My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh Lucas. Lucas is an owner surrender who's family is VERY distraught about having to give him up but is absolutely making the right decision. About 4 years ago this young couple went looking for a family dog. They found Lucas; a beagle/lab mix about a year old and cute as they come. They brought Lucas home and discovered that he has food aggression. Being first time dog owners they sought out advice from the shelter who told them it would be ok and it was manageable. The shelter was right, it was manageable at THAT time and as Lucas grew to respect them the aggression was much more moderate.
Lucas also grew into an AWESOME dog!! He is extremely loving, affectionate, loves to snuggle and thinks he is a lap dog. He is good with other dogs & children (when there is no food or bones), great with cats, trustworthy in the home, not destructive, housebroken, doesn't bark much, rides well in the car, and is just an all around great dog and companion.
Then 2 years ago this young couple started their family. Lucas loves their son in every way but they have to be SO careful every time there is food around. This includes if their son has cheerios as a snack and drops one, etc. They have consulted behaviorists and the truth is that a food aggressive dog should not live with a toddler. So this family made the hard decision. They spoke to their vet and to us.
Lucas has been treated with love and respect from the day he arrived at his home. He has never met a stranger and loves everyone. Mutts4rescue is going to take the time to find Lucas a new home that understamds his needs. Lucas' new home should not have any kids below high school age and should not be planing to have children or grandchildren in the next 10 years. It may be difficult to find Lucas a new home but he is SO worth it!!
Lucas does take 10 mg of prednisone 1x every 3 days. A 6 month prescription bought at stop and shop is $15 so the whole year is only about $30.
