My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Shelby
Sex: Female
Breed: Pit mix
Age: 4 1/2 years
Weight: 55 lbs
Good with: People & kids. No dogs.

Picture this. You, me, a cold drink – we’re sitting on the beach watching the waves crash, listening to some music, and then strutting our stuff in front of all the beach-goers. I’m Shelby, and I’m a certified BEACH BABE … whether it’s the pond, the ocean, or poolside. I don’t discriminate as long as I can dip my paws.

I have a pretty good sense of humor if you haven’t caught on already (you should see me with a squeaky toy)! My ideal home is pretty simple. Home is my place to decompress and cuddle up in a warm place (snuggling on the couch is my favorite), so if you don’t mind, I would like to be the only pet and I'm working on my aggression towards other dogs (its just behavioral aggression and nothing more!). I'm great at home! You can have all your friends over our house (I’m very well housetrained and rarely even ask to go out!) and I’ll become their friend, too … especially if they give me treats! I love my treats and I don't beg at the table! I’m an intelligent, gentle, loving girl. I'm also a very sassy young girl (my foster mom finds this hilarious and I wonder why!)- I love giving my foster parents puppy eyes and little bit of attitude if they make me go in my crate and I don't want to! I know they can't resist me! I'm learning to enjoy sleeping in my bed though and my foster family makes sure I'm warm!

I’m well-behaved, but can sometimes get distracted because of all the cool activities that are happening when I go for walks, so we have to make sure you’re strong enough to keep me safe! I'm working on getting trained to pull less on my leash and stay calm on walks and around other dogs. I'm a great learner though! I can easily stay home all day but I do love my time outside. I never beg for food (though I love watching my foster family cook)! or touch things that aren't mine. I would fit right into a large family that had no pets. Things I dislike? Large objects and loud noises (hey- a girl's gotta protect herself and her family!). I also don't like cold, rainy weather and a cold floor! If I see even a sock on a hardwood floor, I'm going to try and fit my entire body on that sock! Also, I'm an alpha-female! So I'm a bit stubborn and need a human who can be firm and consistent with me, since I do respond well to that. I've been through a lot of different homes, and I really need some consistency and I know I'll be more trusting with a pack that accepts me for the long haul. I would love to stay in a home for a long long time so I can come out of my shell and grow close to my family. I love my playtime and am always looking to involve my foster parents in my activities!

Have I said enough?

So, let’s be adventurous together! We can snuggle up by the TV, roll in the mud, trot though the flower fields, swim, and play ball! You don’t want to miss the chance to meet me, so let’s set up a time to get to know each other!

Love always,
Shelby
