My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arabella: 6 Year Old Spayed Yellow Female Lab 65 lbs

Hi! I’m Arabella and I am one very happy, affectionate, sweet yellow Lab who just wants to be a part of a family that likes to have fun and share the good times with their dog. I like to play fetch (duh, I’m a Lab :-), get lots of pets and belly rubs, and did I already say I want to be your faithful sidekick in all the family activities? I was once a stray in a shelter when Lab Rescue came to my rescue so I could put my best paws forward. I am living in a foster home with a wonderful family who also has two small dogs. My foster dad has trained dogs for 30 years and has been a trainer at Guide Dogs for 23 years. With his leadership I have been learning so many new things, like walking nicely on leash, lots of commands (“sit,” “down,” “heal,” “wait” and lots more) and I sleep in a crate quietly overnight. I am also very food motivated which is great because I’m eager to work for you and learn even more obedience work. As I mentioned, my foster family has small dogs and I’ve been fine with them since they aren’t too pushy. Plus, I’ve met their grandkids, who range in age from 3-6, and I’ve done wonderfully around them. When I was at the shelter I was pretty excited to see the chickens in the fenced area next to the play yard so Lab Rescue feels a home without cats would be best for me. I am looking for a forever home where my people would like to go for long walks on the beach (or anywhere!) and where I can spend lots of time smiling at you and thumping my tail.

What Arabella’s foster has to say:

Hi, I have lots of great things to say about Arabella because she is an affectionate sweetheart. Her favorite things to do are be with you getting love, being trained with food reward for positive behavior, (sits, downs, stays, heel to left side) and fetching toys. She also loves to go on a walk as far as you want to go. She walks very nicely on the leash but I have always been the leader of the walk demanding loose leash/heel position. This has helped her not be so focused on the environment but focused on me, enjoying my verbal interaction for her good behavior. She is also a very good running partner and will keep up nicely with a good running pace. She has done well with the dogs I have brought in to my home but would do best without any other competition from another dog. She likes people much more than interacting with other dogs. Arabella definitely wants to be somebody’s best friend.

What Lab Rescue is looking for:

Arabella is a wonderful dog who has had a few bumps in the road lately. We want her to go to a home where someone can be around most of the day with her; someone who will continue with her training and who will get her out for regular exercise. A key thing for Arabella is a home that has experience with dogs and a home that will lead her and not let Arabella be the leader of the pack. Arabella is healthy, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro chipped. Lab Rescue will provide one session with her trainer when Arabella is adopted. She is located in Petaluma.

If you have the time for this beautiful sweet girl and want her to be a part of your family, please contact Rescue Rep Candace @ (415) 860-5456.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
