Gambit is a 5 year old lab/mastiff mix who was dumped at the high-kill Brooklyn ACC by his owner due to his health. Clearly neglected for a long time, Gambit was lethargic and had trouble walking. The shelter vets determined he was anemic and had severe hip dysplasia. FOWA Rescue wanted to help him and found a vet and foster home in Brooklyn so he could get the medical care and love he needed. It turned out that the hip dysplasia was the least of his problems.
Gambit is now part of the FOWA family and although this wasn't the news we were hoping to hear, we have promised Gambit he would get the care he needs. The vets are working hard to find out what is causing his failing health and FOWA is struggling with unexpectedly high vet bills.
If you could just look into Gambit's eyes you would see what we see - a handsome, kind soul who is getting more love in his foster home than he ever got in his entire life. If you could hear his tiny snores as he sleeps peacefully in a warm bed or see how everyone smiled when Gambit first wagged his tail you would understand. No animal should ever have the start in life he had because every animal deserves a chance at a happy, loving home. We are hoping to give the gift of health, happiness and a family to Gambit. Please help us save this sweet, gentle boy. We can't change his past, but we will change his future......
