Ernie's Story...
This cute little 10 month old boy with a cowlick sticking straight up right in the middle of his forehead looks a lot like a wire haired Dachshund mix. He is almost 28 pounds and should be full grown.

He has lived his whole life with his two siblings and has not been out in the big wide world at all. This sheltered fellow is feeling a bit overwhelmed right now and will flatten himself on the floor in submission when he meets a new person or is in a new place. However, if you are kind and gentle, he will crawl right into your arms for snuggles and tummy rubs even though he is feeling scared. He is so hungry for love!

His true nature is very loving, cheerful and companionable and he bonds thoroughly and quickly to his new people friends who are sweet and patient with him. Once he figures out you are safe, he just cannot get enough face rubs and cuddles and his face lights up so happily when he sees you the next time.

Ernie is a totally different dog when he is with a best doggie friend. He is so much more confident and it is easy to see what a fun and playful little boy he is. He is tail-wagging friendly when he is feeling safe. He loves being in close contact with a good doggie friend. One of his siblings even likes to sit on Ernie and Ernie thinks that is just swell! A confident friend makes him feel confident, too. Ernie does NOT want to be the alpha dog.

We have not tested Ernie yet with other dogs besides his siblings. He may be a little wary of new ones since he has no experience with outsiders but he sure is fabulous with his siblings and we hope that this cheery playfulness with continue with new friends.

When with his siblings, he is not possessive of his space, body or toys, but really loves to share and sleep in a puppy pile. He loves to have fun and bounce around after toys.

Ernie will probably be a bit of a Velcro dog since he gets lonely pretty easily and he does bond thoroughly. We would like him to have a companion dog in his new home but we will need to see how he does with the other dogs here first (we do not mingle the dogs until everyone is neutered or spayed and he was just neutered).

Sweet Ernie will need to have an experienced new owner who understands timid, inexperienced dogs and will have the patience to work with him on becoming more confident. Another compatible dog will bring out his confidence quickly. He is a precious puppy with a big heart who is ready to fall in love with new people who will love him forever. He is only moderate energy so should be easy to live with.
Adoption donation $150.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Ernie, a High Point Dachshund/Corgi dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund/Corgi for sale in High Point, or seeking a Dachshund/Corgi dog from a breeder in High Point.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in High Point already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a High Point breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund/Corgi breeders who help with Dachshund/Corgi rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in High Point paves the way for another one to be saved.
