My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Thumbelina!
Thumbelina is a three-year-old, snuggly girl who is coming out of her shell more each day. Nicknamed “Little Foot,” she is on the small side at around six pounds. While she may be small enough to fit in your pocket, she’ll take up tons of room in your heart!

She came to her foster home very frightened, and took a little time to settle in and be more comfortable with her new surroundings. It did wonders and she has blossomed into a sweet, silly little lap dog who is showing more bravery each day. Little Foot recently made a new friend of a visitor and, instead of hiding, she chose to stay in the same room and watch her new friend, tail wagging the entire time.

With a little time, Thumbelina will wag her way into your heart and onto your lap, where she’ll be happy to stay for as long as you like! Thumbelina is potty-pad trained, crate-trained and learning all her basic commands. Her foster home has resident dogs, and she is comfortable around canines who give her a little space, though she could easily be an only dog or live with cats.

Respectful children could be a good fit as well provided they are willing to be patient with Thumbelina while she settles in. She’d do great in any size home or apartment, and could easily be an “office dog” and go to work with her forever family, as she’s generally well-behaved both in her crate and in the house. Given her shy nature, she may take a little time to get comfortable with her forever family, but your patience will pay off with her wagging tail! The first time you watch her “zoom” across the room to show her trust, it will melt your heart. If you’re looking for snuggles and kisses, Thumbelina is your girl!

Thumbelina’s adoption fee is $200 and she’s located in Milwaukee, WI. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.
