Do you want to help save lives by caring for rescue dogs in your home? Then fostering with SOS may be for you! For more information and to apply to foster, please go to: sosarl.org/foster
Over 4 million adoptable companion animals are killed each year because they can't be connected with furever homes. SOS believes we can make that number zero if we work together hard and smart enough.
SOS is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to helping at-risk animals as we work towards a No-Kill Nation. We facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of homeless dogs with loving forever homes. We are able to accomplish what we are because of our small but committed northern volunteer base, our strong partnerships with other animal rescues, veterinarians, and support services organizations, and our effective collaborations with animal welfare groups across the nation.
Temporary northern foster homes are a key component to our program. These foster homes provide the space, time and care that many of our animals need to recover and learn to trust again. For some animals this is just a day or two and lots of patience and kindness; others may need several weeks or months and targeted medical support, training and/or reconditioning. Fostering has its fare share of challenges and can be harder in many ways than adopting a forever dog, but it can also be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.
You can review more about SOS fostering responsibilities at: sosarl.org/preparing-to-foster. Preparing for and acclimating to your first foster dog is often the biggest challenge. Everyone in the household must be completely committed to this experience. As you care for more and different dogs, the potential knowledge you will build about behavioral and vetting issues, adoption placements and matches, and rescue in general is immeasurable and empowering, but there may also be set-backs, frustrations, and possibly some destroyed items.
Fostering can be fun, rewarding, and gives a dog a second chance at a great life!

NOTE: Some shelters have physical locations you can visit; some of these shelters may only have pets for a limited time, so please do not wait for a reply—just go visit the shelter! Other organizations are rescue groups run by busy volunteers who may take a while to reply.
