My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweetheart of a girl is Lyla. Lyla and her 2 sisters were rescued from the country where
they were found alone. They were starving and very dehydrated. Thankfully they were found
and taken to a rural pound, giving us the opportunity to foster her and other families to foster her
sisters.

Lyla is a 4 month old Lab/Hound/Collie. She has many characteristics of all of the breeds and is a very beautiful dog. She is very playful but will come to an immediate halt to engage in a scent sniff session. She weighs about 28 pounds right now and will be a large size dog when full grown.

Lyla is medium energy pup that has a calm and mellow nature that will make her an excellent
family dog. She seems to roam with her nose plastered to the ground however always will look
up to make sure she is still close to you or her foster dog. I was not familiar with the hound
breed but believe it can be one of my favourites now, especially mixed with Lab. They have a
corky adorable way about them.

Lyla's foster home has a 7 year old Lab and 2 teen boys. Her day consists of playing in
the yard, daily walks, toys at her disposal. She has learned to relax when her foster sibling is
tied out from their playtime. She will either lay on her comfy doggie bed or chew on her toys.
We keep her chew toys close to us at all times and when she gets a little restless (teething
stage) by attempting to chew on anything other than her own toys we place them in front of her
to chew. She has caught on to this and hasn't attempted to try to chew on anything except her
own toys in days.

Lyla is learning new tricks every day. She has mastered coming when you call her name, sit,
fetch and we are working on lay down (she actually plops down every time you pet her).
She is a really smart girl and in time and with some good obedience training, she will have all
the tricks mastered. She will require her obedience training to continue with her new forever
family. Taking her to obedience class with not be a chore, as the reward of how proud she gets
when she does good things and learns new things will be an exciting event for you as well.
Praising her and watching her reaction for good behaviour/habits is the proudest moment a new
owner can feel.

We are working on our walk. Being that she is a puppy and was never on a leash, or even
probably never had a collar on she has a zigzag walk. We are working that she stays on one
side and keeps close to your leg, which she is making great progress with on a short leash. It
doesn't hurt that she loves her reward treats, but she will also be proud of herself with just
praise pats. She gets a lot of socialization time with other dogs during our outings. Besides her
neighbourhood walks, we have taken her on big walks with other dogs, which she loves.
She has attempted swimming, but that was not on purpose, as she ran in the water just
following her foster sibling. She enjoys it more just going in belly deep. It would be great to get
her out on a few walks a day, as well as yard playtime. A fenced yard would be preferable but
no necessary, just be outside to keep an eye on here activities. She doesn't seem to wander far
but that nose may guide her into mischief.

During our walks Lyla has met children of all ages. She can be a little shy upon first approach
but in no time she warms up to you and is so happy to get as many pets and belly rugs you
offer. She has shown no aggression whatsoever. Lyla is a very popular girl and I'm sure her
new forever family will be so impressed with her behaviour. She would do great and would
probably be happy with either children of any age or another dog in her new forever home. The
more attention she gets the better.

She is doing well with her car rides. When we first got her car rides where a scary thing. She is
now more relaxed but may be needing a little coaxing getting in, once she is in she will just lay
and wait for the ride to be over. She has had many short car outings as well as two hour drives
and does great for both.

Lyla loves to snuggle. She loves her soft comfy doggie bed but would never turn down the offer
if you invited her up on the couch to snuggle close. Of course she would want her belly rubbed,
she stops dead in her tracks for a good belly rub. She would love a family that will allow her to
snuggle but also loves her own comfy doggie bed. Lyla loves being affectionate and she will
definitely let you know when she wants attention.
Lyla does not bark a lot but you may want to cover your glass fireplace, slider door or low
windows. She has not yet understood that the mirror image is her own. Between that and dogs
on the TV, that will be the most you hear her bark in the house. She may bark when outside,
but right now it is usually a quite short warning bark. Since she is only a pup I am sure it will get
louder and deeper once she is older but not a bother.

Lyla is fully crate trained and views her crate as her quiet space. At bedtime, Lyla sleeps in her
crate. She is very good at going in the crate now, saying "bedtime" and she is in with a small
treat to follow. She always gets good night sleeps, but watch out in the morning when you open
that crate door she has at least 5minutes of energy which requires your fully attention so don't
think you will be able to sit and have that quiet moment with a cup of coffee right away. She is
also doing very well with her house training and knows that she is supposed to go to the
bathroom outside, she hasn't had an accident in a while but if you’re not monitoring her she could. She is a good little girl but she is still a puppy. She will need a family that understands that puppies need constant supervision in the home, we take her out soon as she wakes up, after every meal, after playtime, after naps and on the hour especially until she gets familiar and
comfortable with her new forever home. If we can't directly watch her she is usually in her crate
so that we can be sure she isn't having any accidents.

Lyla is a very sweet girl, if she seems like the perfect fit for your family she will make a great
addition. Lyla would love a family with children or with another gentle natured dog to share her
walks and mellow times with. She will need a family that will be committed to taking her to
obedience classes and continue with her everyday training as she is so proud of herself when
she does good. She needs to be a loved member of her family and never be discarded again.
Lyla is a pup that will bond very strongly with her forever family and will be a most loyal and
trusted companion . All she asks is the same from her forever family. If you have the time to
take on a puppy, are prepared to do what is required to raise her to become the amazing dog
she will become, then look no further, this is the dog for you.
