My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there,
My name is Ray. You may notice I don’t look like all the other adoptable dogs out there. It is true, I am blind and without eyes. Recently I was brought into the shelter, with fur so matted they could not see my face. A kind groomer gently removed the tremendous matts and helped wash away the filth and fleas trying to take over me. During the process, they found out at some point I’ve lost both eyes. One side has a prosthetic in it, the other was sewn shut, but had an infection hiding behind it. Thank goodness I have antibiotics in me to get all healed up! They also noticed that I had not one, but two collars embedded tightly into my fur. It was quite a process to reveal my tiny, frail little body – which also has missing hair patches from infections. None the less, I was a perfect gentleman, and was so happy to feel the kindness of human hands and cleanliness.

Luckily, NBS Animal Rescue took me in, and made sure that I’d get the best of veterinary care, love and attention possible. I’m all set for being fixed, micro chipped, de-wormed, flea treated, HW negative, fixed and UTD on vaccines. Since I can not see my environment, I depend on the kind words and gentle guidance from humans willing to take the time to help me adapt to my surroundings. Despite having such a painful past, my soul is healing fast – and I’m happy to make new, compassionate friends. As small as I am (under 10lbs) my heart is big and wants so badly to be loved. NBS promised me that there are people out there who will love me for the good boy I am, and love me just as I am.

Who am I you ask? Well, I’m a 4 year old shih-tzu with soft white fur, with dollups of gray patches here and there which will grow in nice and full with time. I love to cuddle, and lay quietly on a warm lap. Of course, I’m also a fan of chewy treats and snacks. Currently, I’m a bit underweight – so I’m pretty excited to get spoiled a little. Oh – and ear scratches and belly rubs… I just looove getting affection from someone (once I get to know their scent of course). It means a lot to me when people take the time to talk to me, and let me smell them so I can be prepared for incoming warmth. Given my situation, I will needs a special someone, who doesn’t mind my special needs being blind and can provide me with a calm, relaxing home to build up my confidence.

If you think you have room in your heart for me or would like to help with my vetting, please check out, http://nbsanimalrescue.com/donate-now/ or fill out an application to adopt me.

If I am not the boy for you, but you’d like to donate towards my veterinary care, I’d be super grateful. I’d also be thankful if you could please share my story so that I can never have to face anything but tenderness, and know what it feels like to have a loving, fur-ever home.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, De-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food.

If you think that I might be the perfect addition to your family, please contact the awesome volunteers at N.B.S. Animal Rescue at nbsanimalrescue@gmail.com for any additional information or answers to any questions you might have.

You can fill out a simple online adoption application at www.nbsar.org and we will start processing your application right away! We do require that persons interested in meeting me apply online and be approved as an adopter first so please visit our website and submit your application today!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on it's vaccinations and heartworm preventative as well as spayed/neutered unless there is a documented medical reason on file with your veterinarian. Dogs must be current on DHLPP, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative, cats must be current on Distemper, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative at the time of application.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and will fill out an adoption application right away, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family. Would you please help me by sharing my picture and information on your Facebook page, or e-mail to your friends and family members? I'm a great pup and I really deserve a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
