My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sandy is only 3 to 4 years old, but even the vet said she's had a hard, hard life. Somewhere along the line she had puppies and ended up in a kill shelter. From there she went to live with a possible drug addict, was put on Craig's List, purchased by a woman who felt sorry for her, and turned over to rescue because she wasn't housebroken. She was physically abused at some point. She's also heartworm positive, although she is on the slow-kill treatment (which just involves giving pills supplied by the rescue). None of this was Sandy's fault, of course, but life has taught her that people can be mean and gentle little dogs need to be very afraid.

Since coming into rescue, she’s let her award-winning personality shine. She loves to play. She gets along well with other dogs and is very gentle when playing with humans. She invites other dogs to play by comically swinging her head from side to side and barking. Sandy’s not a barker though; she’s too polite for that. She’ll let you know if a strange animal or human comes around, but she’s not excessive about it at all. When she’s not doing anything else, she’d prefer to sit with you and might even climb on your shoulder.

Although she would never, ever bite or growl, younger children who may be rowdy, frighten her, so she would probably be better off with adults or older children.

Along with her goofy, sweet ways, Sandy’s got a goofy body. Her legs are too short, so she scurries along rather than runs. She hops up steps. Her tail is permanently skewed to one side, and sometimes she chases it. She’s got a funny toe on each front foot. And she’s absolutely, wonderfully, sweetly adorable.

Sandy is spayed, housebroken, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her shots. She weighed 20 lb. a few months ago, but she has gained some. We will get a current weight on her.

She deserves her forever family, and she will give them all the love and adoration she has in that great big heart of hers.
