Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is from Maddie's rescuer:
Maddie is a 10 pound, six year old Maltese/Shih Tzu who is super cute, loving and playful. She has had a rough go of it for the past year or so after her elderly owner passed away. She was bounced around landing in a home where she was bullied by another dog in the home and forced to live in fear, in survival mode, under the kitchen table. When the new owner threatened to put Maddie down I was called in by a family friend to rescue her. She was severely matted and flea infested and growled every time she was touched. We had her spayed, shaved down and de-fleaed.
Now that Maddie has been living for a few weeks in a safe, healthy environment she is really beginning to shine and show her truly sweet and fun personality. She is also SUPER smart. Although Maddie is good with our other dogs and will sometimes play with them outside, she would be happiest as an only dog as she tends to get stressed by them in close quarters. She does seem to do well with cats as long as they aren’t too young and rowdy and always in her face.
Maddie is too nervous around children, but may be ok in a home with kids over 12 years old. Maddie’s new owner will need to be patient while she takes time to adjust and trust. She is growly at first in some situations, but does not bite, and if worked with in a quiet, gentle way she quickly settles. Maddie can also be barky in certain situations although she does settle and can be redirected, but apartment living or close neighbors would not be a good fit for her. She is proving to be a real character, very busy, nosey and engaging and wanting to be included in whatever you’re doing, but she can also hang out nearby and just chill. She loves to go for walks and play with her toys (she’s great at fetch) but is also happy to sit on a warm lap and snuggle.
She also loves to go for rides but can be nervous and fidgety at first. Maddie is housebroken, spayed and UTD on vaccinations (she is Lyme Positive and currently receiving meds.) …..FMI please e-mail smartdogs100@yahoo.com or call 207-395-5032.
