My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sally Moonbeam is a very special girl, indeed. She has recently joined our rescue from a high kill animal control facility, where her fate seemed doomed. Only eight months old, she had been earmarked for euthanasia despite receiving good behavior evaluations.

We were thrilled to have her join us, and upon arrival, but it seemed that we were way more happy to meet her than Sally was to meet us. Sally was terrified and completely shut down. It took a few days for her to relax and relate to handlers, but, slowly, she began to warm up. In a short while, Sally became loving and affectionate, but still became panicked at being outdoors. Our mission was to give this beautiful ingenue so many positive experiences that she could reclaim the joy of her puppyhood.

Sally certainly did not project the mighty confidence that we so often see in Rottweillers. And yet, she has come around beautifully and is a now a happy go lucky, carefree pup. She can be a bit shy when encountering new people and situations, but her tendency is to back away, rather than respond with fearful aggression. Continued patient handling and strong leadership, will allow Sally to experience the wonders of the world in a positive manner.

Sally is petite for her Rottweiller breed, weighing just 45 pounds, and may be mixed with a skoshe of smaller breed DNA to explain her comparatively delicate features. She has all the classic Rottweiller traits without the massive size.

Sally has become a playful imp, who has completely charmed her foster mom. She has done well with other dogs and older kids, so she could easily join an active family, who can commit to the rigors of training an older puppy. Sally is behind the learning curve on basic manners and obedience commands, but she is extremely eager to please, and a joy to train. Adopters must be prepared to puppy proof the house and be diligent in her training and socialization.

Sally has begun to learn the basics of the AKC Canine Good Citizenship program, and we recommend that adopters continue Sally on this path to build her confidence. She is a medium energy pup, who needs a couple of brisk leash walks, as well as focussed playtime each day to release her puppy energy.

Sally has good house manners, for an older pup, and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur as Sally transitions to her new routine. She spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
