My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.
Luke is a stunningly gorgeous dog who looks and acts like a miniature shepherd. His coat is medium in length and is single coated. He is 10-12 months old and currently weighs 31 pounds; he will probably be under 40 pounds full grown. Luke has a gentle, soft disposition and he enjoys playing with other dogs and would like having another playful dog in his new home unless there is someone home with him. He is safe with cats and he likes kids who are 5 or 6 or older--he isn't sure about babies and toddlers so school aged kids are preferred. Luke bonds strongly to his human and would do best in a home where someone is home much of the day as he likes being close to his person. He is good off leash once he knows where he belongs and when his human is outside with him. Luke is house trained and crate trained and knows some basic obedience commands, but when he is excited he will jump up. His foster mom is working on that with him and he's a fast learner and will enjoy learning more commands and tricks. If you are looking for a wonderful companion who will sleep quietly on the bed with you or your kids, Luke would be a great fit. He is in rescue with Happy Hound Rescue, a local 501c3 all volunteer non profit and is in a foster home. Luke’s adoption fee is $350 which covers his full vetting including neuter, heartworm and flea/tick prevention, all immunizations, and a Home Again microchip
