My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack was taken to the pound after roaming a campsite in Southern Ohio for weeks. He did have a microchip so we do know his birthday but the person the chip was registered to is no where to be found.
Jack is missing his left eye. Although we do not know the history, it was taken care of professionally by a veterinarian. This minor handicap does not stop Jack from enjoying life.
Adults (men and woman), kids (big and small), dogs, cats - he has been around them all. Jack’s temperament is calm and laid back; therefore he is friendly with everyone he meets. When he has visitors at his foster home, he gets excited, wags his tail, but does not jump up on people.
Jack would be a great companion in any home environment although being a young three-year old, he is somewhat “lazy” so we think he may benefit if he had another dog to play with. His foster home includes two cats that Jack has never bothered with. The cats can come right up to Jack to sniff him and he just sits there, no problems.
He really enjoys being outdoors! Jack likes to play ball when prompted; sometimes he will bring it right back and other times, he rolls all over the grass with the ball teasing the person who wants to throw it again for him.
Jack is totally house trained; has never had an accident in his foster home or his kennel. Although he was initially crate trained with no problems whatsoever, he hasn’t needed to be kenneled in his foster home, even when left alone.
Smart and eager to please, Jack will sit and lay down on command. He is not very “treat motivated” meaning he’d rather have lots of loving touch and verbal praise. Jack knows the word NO and will stop whatever he is doing when told to do so. He’s also a great passenger in the car. He gets in and either sits up or lies down and enjoys the ride.
Things that Jack is working on: Jack has been afraid to come in and out of the house. And if a leash is put on him to coax him in or out, he cowers down to the ground. We are not sure if it is because he is not used to being in a home environment or if it is a combination of steps and uncarpeted floors that scare him. But he has progressed to a point where he is now going through the kitchen (no carpet, just a couple throw rugs) and down the steps to go outside by himself. Because of Jack not really liking a leash on (he may have never had a leash before), he is also working on leash training/walking with signs of progression every day.

Jack is ready to find his forever family; he is easily loved and will give that love back tenfold unconditionally.
