My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, world! I’m Floyd. If you follow Dekalb Rescue’s page, you may have seen the “heartbreaking” photo of me in July of 2014. I ended up at the shelter at 12 years old with major cataracts and a heart murmur. Lots of fine folks set out to share and plea for a rescue for me. One of those pleas made it to these folks and, well, you know the soft spot they have for older guys and gals like me.

I have been in foster care since being saved and am doing great. My foster mom has “forever fostered” several seniors and special-needs dogs like myself over the years for rescue, including Jerry Lee. She said she’s willing to do it again for me. Yippee! But we know there are plenty of other big-hearted people out there who have a soft spot for guys like me, so we’re sharing my story in hopes that maybe I’ll find a forever home and/or a sponsor.

Since I left the shelter, I have had to have both of my eyes removed because of the fluid/pressure in them and the abscessing it was causing. I was already completely blind, so this was actually a good thing for me. I am no longer in any pain and doing very well in my foster home. It has not slowed me down in the least! My other senses are awesome … and so am I! Check out the video of me going up and down the stairs! Woohoo!

I can follow voices, am house-trained and well-behaved. I get along great with all of the people and other dogs here. Doc says I’m in pretty good health, too.

If you can look beyond my so-called disability (or if you love me even more because of it), please see the right column for information on how to adopt me.
