My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our gentle giant, Tank, has a sad tale of loss and betrayal. His beloved owner died, and the surviving family members immediately dumped Tank into a high-kill animal control facility...where he immediately contracted kennel cough, which morphed into a full blown URI. At this point, Tank could not be neutered or adopted, so oblivion seemed to be his only option. We were completely gobsmacked when we found this majestic dog, 3 years old, on the shelter's daily euthanisia list. His shelter mugshot showed him accessorized with a snappy ascot, dressed to the nines, for his impending date with the needle.

Tank appears to be a giant, red Doberman Pinscher, who tips the scale at 120 pounds. We didn't think this was possible, but surely, we found a number of Doberman breeders producing such giants. He is blissfully au natural, with uncropped ears and tail. As soon as we saw him, our collective jaws dropped, as we skeedaddled to Petco for an emergency purchase of an XXL, crate, hoping that it would suffice, and that it would not be necessary to build Tank an addition to the house.

Large breed dog lovers will thrill at Tank's grand dimensions and remarkable, friendly demeanor and loving nature. Clearly Tank has been loved, well cared for, and properly socialized. He handles extremely well on lead, with proper neckwear, and he already knew some basic obedience commands when he came to us. We have continued Tank on his Canine Good Citizenship program and he is ready to pass the test with flying colors.

Tank would be an ideal family dog, and would give everyone equal attention. He would relish raucous kid play, but would most likely knock down wobbly toddlers, or step on the crawling baby. He could easily join a multi-dog home with other well trained dogs. His temperament appears to be neutral, and he would blend in nicely with any kind of stable dog pack. He seems to have a genial nature and is not prone to social climbing in a dog pack.

Tank could also join the active lifestyle of an active single or couple, whose lifestyle provides enough action to keep Tank engaged. He is a medium energy dog that requires at least one to two brisk leash walks a day. Tank's size suggests some living space logistics, and he would not be a good choice for folks who live in a studio apartment, or drive a Mazda Miata.

Tank came from apartment life, and does have excellent house manners. He is the consummate companion dog, and loves to be with his people. He craves human touch and affection, and he gives as good as he gets. He is housetrained and crate trained, but adopters should expect the occasional accident to occur during his transition to a new environment.

Tank will be neutered this week, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
