My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 9/20/14!!!

Foster Updates: Shyanne is now in a loving foster home in AL, where she proudly wears her “Roll Tide!” bandana! She loves to lay in the sunshine in the yard and is making wonderful strides in the short time she has been in foster care.

One Week:
It will be a week that Shyanne came into my home. She is hanging out with us, her tail is wagging all the time, and, as of last night, she is sleeping with us in the master bedroom. She came in on her own and got up on the bed. We had thunder last night; she tucked her head behind the pillows, but was fine. She also comes up and licks my hand now. She is sleeping by me as I write this.

We started leash training this morning. She saw the leash and wanted no part of it. So I draped it around my neck and sat on the sofa. She came up and I clipped it on her. We sat like that for awhile. She pawed my arm several times, so we went outside and she walked just fine but I let her lead. When I tried to put the leash on Thelma, she came up and wanted it. She is a very smart little girl.

She has also learned that you DO NOT sniff the cats. They do not like it!

Day Four: This little girl has made great progress! She is spending more time out of her corners and spent a lot of time on the sofa yesterday getting up and down on her own. She was hanging out in the living room with us and the tail was wagging often. I took Shyanne and put her on my bed last night and she was fine sleeping next to me. But, she would not go into that room on her own. She is going out on her own to take care of business and coming back in on her own. When I said "What a good girl!" her head went up and she started to prance. She loves to be told she is a good girl. I am pleased she is doing better but still a little afraid.

Day Two: She is a sweet dog but a challenge. I brought her home a day ago and she hid in my art room in the back of the house. Then she came out to hide in a corner of the dining room behind a silk tree. Now, she sleeps in the guest room next to the Master bedroom. She wanted to get outside every chance she can and it is hard to get back inside. Shyanne digs holes in the corners of the yard to sleep. I think she has been an outside dog and does not know what to do inside. She has just started to figure out to go out and come back in. Her tail has started to wag and she is coming up to me more often for face kisses and love. She is a lost little girl, capable of learning but is going to need a lot of patience.

Shyanne's Story: Through no fault of her own, sweet Shyanne found herself at an animal shelter in Louisiana. The shelter called SGRR and told us about this scared Golden mix who needed out of the shelter quickly. Sunshine was happy to take her into our care and find a forever home for this girl. When she first came to our rescue, Shyanne was afraid of her own shadow. The sound of a leaf falling would make her jump and it seemed like she slept with one eye open. Initially, she froze when she was leashed but she is now able to be leashed and will mosey around at her own pace. Gradually, she will learn that a leash is a good thing and means a fun walk. More and more, this angel is coming out of her shell and gaining trust.

We estimate Shyanne to be about 2 years old. She is good with others dogs and is fine with cats. Shyanne’s former family did not keep her on heartworm preventative so she is under treatment for heartworm and can come north in late Sept. It appears this little lady may have had a mishap with her tail as it appears to be a bit shorter than one might expect. Shyanne is up-to-date on all her vaccinations, is spayed, and micro-chipped.

Shyanne is a very sweet girl who needs to feel loved and cherished. We know she will flourish in the care of a loving adopter. If your specialty is TLC then Shyanne is the dog you need… or more precisely, who needs YOU!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
