Facts about Rowdy

  • Breed: Grade/Quarterhorse Mix
  • Color: Bay
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Medium
  • Sex: Male
Rowdy was rescued from a hoarder in October 2011. He has recovered from starvation, but has conformation issues so he is not sound for riding. He can be fearful of new situations - not jumpy but shakes with fear. It's likely that he had more abuse in his past. Stands well for the farrier and does well on pasture. Would be a good companion for another gelding. Would do best with a patient person who has a calm demeanor and will take time to bond with him. Lots of potential to become an "in your pocket" type of companion. Also likes goats. He would make a great pasture pal for your other horse(s).

If you're interested in adopting Rowdy, fill out our adoption application at Please check our Adoption FAQs to make sure you're eligible before applying. Adoption fee for Rowdy is $300.

About Catskill Animal Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

Located in the New York’s Hudson Valley, Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS provides innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.

CAS offers weekend and special group tours, vegan cooking classes, speaking engagements, a summer day camp for kids, and a host of compassionate programming year round at its primarily solar-powered Sanctuary. Lodging is available on site at The Homestead, a beautifully-renovated 1813 farmhouse.

Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 3,500 animals, and has worked in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice.

Our Adoption Process...

We ask all adopters to complete an adoption application, specific to the species they intend to adopt. These can be found on our website at We then set up a meeting between adopter and animal to see if the two are compatible. We require a site visit to see where the animal will be living prior to approving an adoption. Things we look for include type and condition of fencing, size and condition of pasture, shelter- run in/shed/barn/stall, availability of food and water, type of bedding to be used. We ask for 2 references for all adopters. There is also an adoption fee for all animals which varies by species ranging from $15-$500.
