Facts about Colette

  • Breed: Grade/Quarterhorse Mix
  • Color: Black
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Medium
  • Sex: Female
Colette came from an animal hoarder outside of Saratoga as part of a 14 horse rescue in 2011. Colette is a shy, 14.2 HH mare. Colette has had professional training on ground manners and is growing accustomed to handling. She has a lot of potential. She is barefoot and sound, but would need lots of training and patience to become a riding horse. She stands for vet and farrier, but is wary of strangers.

If you'd like to adopt or foster Colette, please go to and fill out an adoption application. The adoption fee for Colette is $300.00.

Can't adopt but still want a horse friend? What about sponsorship?

To sponsor Colette or one of our other horses, go to
Your sponsorship will help pay for Colette's food, bedding, farrier, and vet care. Sponsorship is $ 100 per month. It is a great way to get involved and support an animal even if you can't take one home. Your sponsorship will include: 2 glossy photos of your animal, a 1 year family membership to CAS, and VIP visiting privileges by appointment. Sponsorship even makes a great gift!

About Catskill Animal Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

Located in the New York’s Hudson Valley, Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS provides innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.

CAS offers weekend and special group tours, vegan cooking classes, speaking engagements, a summer day camp for kids, and a host of compassionate programming year round at its primarily solar-powered Sanctuary. Lodging is available on site at The Homestead, a beautifully-renovated 1813 farmhouse.

Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 3,500 animals, and has worked in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice.

Our Adoption Process...

We ask all adopters to complete an adoption application, specific to the species they intend to adopt. These can be found on our website at We then set up a meeting between adopter and animal to see if the two are compatible. We require a site visit to see where the animal will be living prior to approving an adoption. Things we look for include type and condition of fencing, size and condition of pasture, shelter- run in/shed/barn/stall, availability of food and water, type of bedding to be used. We ask for 2 references for all adopters. There is also an adoption fee for all animals which varies by species ranging from $15-$500.
