My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spirit is a delightful 10 year old "beefy" girl with her own brand of cattitude! She was bonded to her previous owner, but when her owner died, Spirit began to withdraw from human contact, to the point where the other family members decided she would do better in a new home where she could find someone new to love her. We are hoping to find her someone that will appreciate her independent nature, her sweet little "croak" that substitutes for most cats' "meow," and her stage presence!

Spirit knows how to command a room; one swish of that beautiful fluffy tail and she captivates everyone in range. She doesn't care for being picked up - we think she finds it undignified - but enjoys being petted and admired. Until she is tired of being petted and admired. Then you should STOP petting and admiring her. Right now. That's better.

She has a funny, quirky purrrrrrrrrrrsonality, doesn't really care much for other cats (I don't think she knows she, too, is a cat), and enjoys the company of people who appreciate her beauty, style, and intelligence. She would be an ideal kitty for a retired person, or a professional who wants a cat that will share their life as an equal, rather than "just a cat." Spirit knows she is a gift to humanity, and can't wait to bestow that gift to just the right person. She enjoys adults more than children (whom she also finds somewhat undignified). She would be willing to ignore another cat if you have one, and probably willing to ignore your dog, but is not likely to become best friends with either. She wants to be friends with YOU, but not in a clingy, co-dependent way... she is the type of friend that will listen to your daily trials and tribulations, and may respond with a "there, there" paw now and then, but will not demean herself by rolling around on your lap or batting wildly at some brightly colored bauble. Sure, she MIGHT play with a toy now and then... but that's just because she doesn't want the toy to feel useless.

Spirit had full bloodwork done (we do this for all pets over 10 years as a routine screening), and is healthy in every way. Although she looks huge, she is really a bit under 15 pounds and probably should take a couple of pounds off... but she says "you should talk" and then turns her head away any time I bring it up with her. Hmmm.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Spirit is suggested minimum $20 (senior pet discount; more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
