My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HURLEY is a 3 year old black neutered male Lab who weighs 106 pounds (should be 85 lbs ~ on green bean and exercise diet). He's as advertised, he is a big roly poly happy go lucky BBB (Big Black Blockhead). He loves to be with you and thinks that you should play with him or if you're tired from throwing his toys so he can bring them back he will hang out with you while you rest. Knows commands "Sit," "Stay," "Lay down," "roll over," and, of course, "no." He even could pick out the correct toy when asked for it by name. Okay on lead, hasn't been on one much House and crate trained. Doesn't need a crate but likes to sleep in it with the door open. Hurley is a lap dog of epic proportions. Car rides are a beloved pastime.
He is excellent with children (even toddlers and infants) (formerly lived with a 1 years old but might bump over smaller children when playing as he is not graceful). He's great with other dogs, and has an energetic personality. He loves to explore the great outdoors. Hurley is looking forward to finding his forever home! He's approved for kids aged 3+.

Update (11/10): Hurley has fit in nicely to our routine. He is fairly low maintenance and wants nothing more than a couple of walks, some food, and to get a stick thrown every now and then. There is nothing better to him than getting to play fetch with one of his humans. He likes going in the car and rides patiently until you stop. Hurley walks great on a leash, he does get excited when he sees other dogs especially if they are excited as well, he would benefit from an easy walk harness to help when this happens. Like most labs, he is full of enthusiasm when you come home. He greets you like you've been gone for months and shows his affection with a full body wag and running back and forth between your legs while you pet him, it's a Hurley thing. We have gone to Burke Lake park several times and he has done really well, he went swimming and met a couple of other other dogs with no problem. He interacts well with calm dogs but responds excitedly toward very excited dogs. Hurley is a super sweet boy, he would do best in a home where he would get plenty of exercise with a yard to play. He has played well with my neighbor's dog several times and seems to love the company; the neighbor's cat on the other hand, not so much.

Update (8/28): Hurley is a good boy. He has settled in nicely to his foster house and has free reign to go where he choses--he doesn't even need to be crated during the day anymore! Although he has free reign of the house he prefers to be with one of his humans. He would definitely fall under the category of Velcro lab. He likes to be with you and where all the excitement is. Hurley is an avid fetcher, you throw it he'll retrieve it, balls, sticks, bones whatever. He walks well on a leash, he will pull sometimes when he sees another dog or person walking he just has to meet. He has been friendly to all the dogs he's met and even had a good play with his foster's neighbors' dog. When he wants to go to the bathroom he's learned to go to the door and point with his nose. He is such a smart and courteous boy he will even self administer his own treats to save you the time of having to get them for him...even if they're on the counter or kitchen table. Hurley's a sweet guy and would love to go to an active family.
